oh yeah, totally! (sorry this took forver to get to, but i worked on the Y//O//I post for 90 years)
the crew made sure to show Garnet was incredibly disgusted and terrified to the point of unfusing
having Steven be horrified by what he’s seeing and trying to help Garnet when she’s seeing something this fucked up & traumatic
having Ruby and Sapphire try to talk to each other
showing Ruby’s rage with how Homeworld treats fusions of different gems
Sapphire’s worry with Ruby and still in shock of what she’s seeing. she might have future vision, but seeing something like this still messed her up emotionally and psychologically
the Cluster being shoved in the core of Earth was also kinda cool to me tbh. like, having a viable threat that can bust out in any second and completely shred apart the entire planet? that’s a fucking interesting “race against the clock” kinda scenario that the Crystal Gems needed!
the crew, and moreso specifically Sugar herself, says there’s no villains in this story. but shows forced fusions. and how those gems that are forced together are in absolute pain and misery. and how Garnet is also miserable. and how Steven feels the pain of those gems physically. how... how do you even mess that up?
the entire Cluster arc. Homeworld has a fucking geo-weapon underneath their feet, and the Crystal Gems decide to break into song and stop working to celebrate Steven’s birthday?! guys, it’s a bit more important to get rid of this incredible fucking threat before y’all decide to just mellow out with Steven’s ukulele!Â
also, they missed a good chance to develop Peridot a bit more. the Gems could be busy working and Steven is a bit upset that they can’t celebrate his birthday due to this huge threat, but he 100% understands why. the Gems promise to throw him a proper birthday party after they’re done with the Cluster, and he’s okay with that. Peridot overhears this, and when she goes in the drill with Steven she refuses to let Steven get hurt. when he starts panicking and the two thing they’re gonna die, she says, “NO! we need to celebrate your creation! i won’t allow you to be destroyed!”Â
idk, something like that, i guess.
