This was the first time I used brown eggs and they are definitely a deeper, less orange, red.

I used a nail to scratch on traditional Czech kraslice decorations.

I used a gallon bag full of onion skins with 10 cups of water and 4 TB vinegar.

I combined the ingredients in a small stockpot and brought to a boil. I simmered the onion skins with the lid on for 30 minutes, then removed them from the heat and steeped for a further 30 minutes. I then removed them from the onion skins from the water.

I added 7 eggs to the dye bath and brought back to a boil and simmered for 15 minutes. Then I removed the pot from the heat and let the eggs sit in the dye for 30 more minutes.

I removed them to a rack and when they dried I lightly scratched the design into the egg with a nail and then lightly polished each egg with olive oil.

I am… so happy with how this came out.

This is a free pattern by @theworldinstitches. They used blue thread on white aida but this grey aidawas so pretty I wanted to use it in a gift. So I tried white on grey to give it an almost lacy look and I’m elated with the effect. I used seed beads in a couple spots mostly because I never get to use them and I think they ended up looking nice.
