Jim steps right over the half-dead corpse of the sea god and leaps for Olu. Their teeth bash together, their kiss awkward and harsh and desperate, but Jim's love is here, warming their chest, soft and hot and welcoming against the sharp blade that has become their very existence.

"I didn't think I'd see you again," Jim confesses their sin, their doubt, "I thought you were dead."

But Olu, their sweet Oluwande, doesn't falter, his smile brighter than the sun, the greatest blessing that Jim has had in months, in their whole life, probably. "Glad I could prove you wrong."

"I am never leaving you again, you hear me?" Jim's promise is a vicious, honest one. "They can bash my head in again and I'll crawl after you, killing any and every man I have to get back to you."

Despite the venom in Jim's words, the absolutely raw honesty in their voice, Olu doesn't falter. Doesn't even blink. "And I'll find you, across everything," Olu promises in return, just as honest, just as tender as Jim's blades.

My number one ship in all of OFMD. They seized control of my heart in Season 1 (even more than EdStede), and I was devastated when their AMAZING setup in the finale of Season 1 (Jim finally giving up their revenge quest for peace and happiness and having it ripped out of their fingers after mere hours) kind of went nowhere in Season 2. Thankfully, this series really explores the dynamic between them really well- even grows and develops it more in the context of a greater OT3- and gives me what I wanted out of the show. (Also, this song might be my favorite pairing I've done in this moodboard series so far.)

As @evelynhug0 so kindly requested, I'm going to release each of the main character playlists (and one for the main ship, Rachel and Daiyu) once a week leading up to the release of the book!

Third up is Marcel "Zell" Oathkeeper, one of the two best friends of Rachel and our resident disaster poly bisexual. Born into a Magical family, Zell is a bit out of place in the Normie world, what with his yellow turtlenecks, overalls, and ascots, but he's rather enthusiastic about certain discoveries, such as Guitar Hero and Mountain Dew. He likes to experiment with his cooking in his free time and his best friends have been the unfortunate recipients of many Mountain-Dew-related experiments. Underneath his optimistic attitude, however, lies a deep-seated survivor's guilt and worse coping methods than he's letting on, the best of which is the garden of ghosts he's maintaining with his Vine-Slinging powers (aka plant powers).

As Rachel describes him in Chapter 1:

“Excuse you, I love my clothes.” Zell even reaches up and smooths out his neon yellow henley to prove the point.

I arch an eyebrow at the state of his pants. “Tell that to the dirt stains on your knees, Ni.”

“You just can’t appreciate the beauty of nature, Ray,” Zell tsks as he grabs his backpack from Stebbie’s well-organized hands.

That’s Marcel Oathkeeper in his natural form for you: Zell the plant boy. Overalls and plant magic and a rooftop garden above our apartment. Dirt constantly caked under his fingernails and ground into his pants. Long, gangly limbs that looked awkward until he grew into them. He and Stebbie are quite the match, given the nearly twelve-inch-height-difference between them.
