🍇 : how would my muse describe their childhood? how much has it impacted the person they are now, or will become as an adult? around what age did they or will they start to mature, and why? do they wish to go back to their days as a child, or have they embraced adulthood?
it was a pretty cold and lonely childhood for bobby. his father emmanuel grew up poor and vowed to do whatever he could to not just make money but continue to make it which meant he became a ruthless businessman. that ruthless behaviour also extended to bobby as his father. emmanuel da costa was a harsh father who was always disappointed in bobby for failing to live to his expectations and made that very clear to him at a young age. but his father wasn’t around as much ( but when he was it was bad, see above ) which means he grew up around various nannies and household staff. his mother nina, who he does adore, was also constantly working on various archeological digs ( probably to get away from his father ) so she wasn’t around as much either. but when she was, she tried so hard to be a good mom to him and support him which he appreciates. on the rare occasion they were around, they were both rude and callous towards each other which meant poor bobby was in the middle of it all. ‘ family dinners ‘ weren’t really family dinners because they ended with both of his parents getting mad at each other, stomping off ( mostly his father ) and bobby either having to finish dinner alone in the dining room or alone in his bedroom.
this childhood explains a lot of his ‘ fun , devil may care ‘ attitude. he never really had a childhood so he’s spending adulthood making it up for it. never got to be a kid thanks to his father. never got to be a proper teenager thanks to his powers ( although he loves being sunspot and loves mutants ) but that doesn’t mean he can’t get serious when need be. it’s just that his default is being and having fun due to aforementioned childhood.
age of maturity ? some would argue probably never lol. but in all seriousness, he had to mature a bit during his childhood because he had to do a lot of things himself and be his biggest support system because his parents weren’t it. but due to his racial heritage, he’s had to deal with racism ( and still does ) while growing up and being bullied by white brazilians due to his race. so that opened his eyes to a lot of injustice in the world and how he’ll spend the rest of his life facing it no matter how much money he has. and then his powers were activated so now he became part of another minority: mutants.
does he wish to go back ? no. he’s pretty happy as an adult and likes it a lot more than his childhood as described above. has he embraced adulthood ? well partially ! he’s still got his carefree attitude due to the reasons described above but like i said, he can and does know when to get serious. don’t underestimate him thinking he’s just some idiot jokester because when the time comes, he will prove that he’s totally capable of creating and enacting schemes where he wins.
