Jaune was led slowly through the long dark hallway. Missing his sword, shield, and armor there was little he could do with so many of Salem's men escorting him through the winding dungeon. He was captured after a rather harsh argument with Weiss about her family. It had escalated when Ruby tried to intervene, things were said, and by the end of it Jaune stormed out. He needed air and time to cool off. Thatās when the ambush happened, too many too fast. The back of his head still ached so one of them must of gotten a good hit on him. Finally, he was led into what he assumed would be his 'accommodations' for the time being. It was a dark stone cell with a solid metal door. The only lights in the whole place were the simple lamps built into the dark stone walls. The cuffs around his wrists were taken off as he was shoved into the room, the metal door clanging closed behind him. āwell, nutsā¦ā was all Jaune could say as he rubbed his wrists ānot exactly what I had in mind when I needed time to cool offā he looked around the cell in the dim light. There was a simple matt, a water barrel, and may a fireplace? This must have been some other building before it was a prison.
āH-Helloā¦ā a tiny voice squeaked out from the opposite side of the room. It was some young woman struggling to stand. āA-are you a prisoner too?ā the voice was shaking and weak but polite. Jaune thought she sounded familiar but couldnāt place it, not till she stepped into the light.
Jaune was about to answer when he saw her. Her dark hair tangled and disheveled failed to hide her face. It was Cinder Fall, but, so there was so much wrong. She sounded frail, her voice shaking, her steps slow as she tried to approach the blonde huntsman. āI guess so⦠are you a prisoner here?ā Jaune would ask as his mind ran through a hundred scenarios at once. His mind settled one just one as he saw her in full in the glow of the lamps. All of her former Grimm body parts⦠were missing, her arm, was just gone, missing at the shoulder. Her eye, now empty and gray stared just barely out from under her unkempt hair. Jauneās heart was gripped was a certain burning hate that he had to hold. This wasnāt right, it wasnāt fair. The only one who could have done this to Cinder, to take the Grimm away was the same one that gave it to her. Salem must of torn the Grimm out of her, probably as punishment for her failure.
Cinder would nod slightly āI⦠I was told I did something terribleā she reached up and rubbed the scarred stump where here arm used to be āI donāt remember what it was⦠but if I got put in here because of it⦠I must have done something really badā she looked up at the blonde man, her remaining golden eye was full of a gentle softness. Jaune had a hard time believing that this was the same ruthless woman that had done do much evil, so much murder. āDid you do something terrible?ā she asked in a worried tone.
Jaune thought to himself so many awful things he could say, mean, vicious things, just for some kind of revenge. He wanted to, but his heart knew, it wouldnāt do any good here. āActually this is the dungeon of an evil witch! And she tossed me in here because I was meddling in her plansā Jaune would smile as he saw Cinder's face light up.
āDoes that mean⦠they were lying to me?ā she took a few tepid steps towards Jaune. āM-Maybe Iām here because of that evil witch too?ā she would start to smile but as she tried to approach him she would stumble only to have Jaune catch her and hold her up. āS-Sorry I donāt have good balanceā¦ā
āIts okay.ā Jaune would help her over to the simple mat and let her sit. āIm Jaune by the wayā
Cinder would have a gentle smile forming on her face āJauneā her smile would fail her as she opened her mouth to answer āIm⦠my name isā¦.is⦠I⦠I donāt, rememberā she would stare off, tears starting to firm in her remaining eye. āI canāt even remember my own name!ā she shook her head āwhy canāt I remember!ā Cinder would look to Jaune, tears leaking down her face and onto the simple dress she was clad in.
The man had so many choices in his head, this woman looked like Cinder but, right now thatās where the resemblance stopped. He moved wrapping his arms about the confused woman and pulled her slight frame against his chest. Stroking the back of her head slowly he comforted her with calm words āits okay, I donāt know why you lost your memory but I will help you. No one should be a prisoner of an evil witch not when I can help itā Jaune wasnāt a hundred percent sure what had happened but, if the person that was Cinder was erased then this woman was innocent. āI will get us out of here and I can help you get your memory backā
Cinder would cry and shiver in the huntsman's arms for a little but as he spoke she would try to stop her tears, it would be replaced with quiet sniffles as she rubbed her face into his warm chest. Jaune started to notice something else, Cinder, or this woman was cold to the touch, almost worryingly cold. He would take up the only blanket on the meager mat and wrap it about her shivering form.
Not in a million years would he had thought he would be comforting the woman who had taken his partner from him, but here he was. His arms wrapped around the sniffling, scared woman as she clung to his chest. His anger and hate were only quenched by the kindness still in his heart. Jaune had laid awake at night so many times thinking of all the things he would say, do, to bring the woman to justice. It wouldnāt have been, he just wanted revenge all those nights.
āWell⦠I have to call you something, I canāt just always say, āhey youā now can I?ā Jaune smiled as he started down into her golden eye āIf you canāt remember your old name, how about we give you a new one!ā Jaune smiled and ran his along her back trying to calm her tears. It seemed to work as her tears and whimpers started to abate.
āA⦠new name?ā She asked with the smallest smile starting to show. āI⦠donāt knowā¦ā She paused thinking about the whole idea.
Jaune nodded as the woman laid her head against his chest and sighed softly her delicate fingers gripping on to the cloth of his hoodie. She seemed so innocent and sweet. āWould it be okay if I gave you a name?ā Jaune didnāt want her to go through more pain than she had already been through. Maybe, just maybe this woman didnāt have to be Cinder anymore.
She looked up at him, this man, he was nothing but kind to her, a hero imprisoned by an evil witch, then what did that make her? Why would a witch have any interest in her? Did that make her like a princess in a tower? She was still so confused, and why couldnāt she remember anything. The least she could do for this man, Jaune, was to let him choose her name. āI⦠I would like that Jauneā
The young man started to smile, he had a few ideas that would fit her, though he wanted to make sure she would like her new name too. He looked up to the ceiling of the cell only to see the broken moon through the bars. āHmm, well⦠how about⦠Luna? Since you are as pretty as the moon.ā He nervously chuckled almost surprised by his own words.
The woman started up a Jaune her mouth open for a little bit before turning to a weak smile āI⦠oh, um, I⦠I like itā Luna squeaked out as she hid her face into his chest āDo⦠do you really⦠think Im⦠pretty?ā She asked sheepishly
