Are you still taking prompts for the 5 sentence short stories? [I had this idea when I read “it takes a village (or at least the neighborhood)”. I thought now’s maybe the time to get a mini sickfic for that. Pretty, pretty please!?] -> “I called my doctor, there is definitely something wrong with my sinuses. Even my teeth hurt! I’m leaving in about 20 minutes.” (PS feel free to rephrase that sentence :))
Anonnnnnnn what a lovely suggestion. Here's a brief prequel to it takes a village (or at least the neighborhood)
"Something's definitely wrong," Ronan said, zipping up his sweatshirt and rubbing at his upper arms--he didn't have a fever the last time he checked, but based on how cold he felt, he probably had one now. "I called my ENT and they can take me today--I'm gonna head out in twenty."
Frowning, Adam went over to Ronan and wrapped his arms around him, lips near Ronan's ear (which had started to ache this morning, not that he'd told Adam yet). "Sorry, honey." His embrace was warm and solid, and Ronan wished that staying like this would be enough to make this all go away. "Want some tea for the road?"
After a moment of leaning into Adam's arms and feeling sorry for himself, Ronan shook his head. He'd had so much tea over the past week in the hopes that it would help him feel better, in addition to way too much sleep, long hot showers, and every over the counter medicine that Adam would allow, but his sinuses were stubbornly painful through it all. "My teeth hurt," he whined instead, but even complaining didn't feel as good as it usually did, congestion buzzing in his face. "Hate this."
"I know." Adam smoothed one hand over Ronan's back, bringing the other up to massage his neck. Ronan heard him take a breath to say something else when the baby monitor crackled from the bedside table, followed by a cry from Opal. With a sigh, Adam kissed Ronan's cheek. "Let's try this again." Stepping back, he put his palm to the spot he'd just kissed. "Take something for your fever before you head out, okay?"
"I will." Ronan rubbed his hands over his face, wincing as he touched his cheekbones. "Thanks for doing all the dad stuff this week."
Smiling, Adam took Ronan's hand and gave a gentle squeeze. "Of course. Now go see your doc so that you can get started on the getting better stuff."
