Tiffany sawyer checked herself one last time before closing the mirror in her locker and, as she turned to her friends, she made sure to glance a few looks at the younger boy near them.
ânobody in their right mind would pick that AJ over me! Iâm telling u Dean Winchester is a fag. â she shouted.
Tiffanyâs words caused the hallway to fill with laughs and Samâs heart swelled for his brother.
As he opened his mouth to respond, a strong hand gripped his shoulder and he was spinned around to meet a pair of big blue eyes and a sympathetic grin.
âsheâs not worth it yknow, besides sheâs just petty cuz she got knocked up and soon her church sweaters wonât fit anymoreâ he said almost yelling the second part.
â.. Thanksâ Sam says hesitantly, walking with the strong hand still on his back.
â Iâm Castiel, Cas for friends and please donât mind Tiffany.â
âWinchester I know, I was actually looking for you, I was assigned as your tutorâ. Walking the hallway the boys set up a time to meet that same afternoon, separating as the last bell rang.
The sweet purr of baby pulling up the Novakâs driveway was replaced by Deanâs voice.
ârember what I said Sammy.â rolling his eyes the younger brother repeated the words heâd been hearing his whole life, like a prayer âstay focused, do the Winchesterâs proud and be better than you.â so with his oversized backpack he walked to the Novakâs door, looking back to see that Dean was already blasting classic rock and leaving.
Opnening the door Castiel only catched a glimpse of the beautiful 1967 black chevy impala, âsweet rideâ he thought to himself before inviting Sam inside.
âsecond door on the rightâ Cas directed, entering the big bedroom Sam couldnât help but smile, noticing all the classic rock cdâs organized by band and decade sitting on casâs beautiful desk.
âyouâd like my brotherâ he giggled,
âwhyâs that?â cas asked intrigued.
Sam only answered by pointing at the collection and cas nodded âwell, heâs got good taste!â.
The afternoon went by quickly, switching from basic equations to English literature until the sweet voice of Ms. Novak called the boys downstairs. She carefully set the Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on the table
âcasâs favouriteâ she added leaving the boys in the cozy living room.
Sam couldnât help but feel safe in that environment, noticing how Ms Novak was checking on them every now and then, kissing casâs head as she brought them each a glass of milk.
âyou alright?â cas asked noticing the sudden sad look on the younger boys face.
âyeah just tired.. And tiffanyâ Sam lied, knowing Cas couldnât understand his real feelings, how could he with a mother like his.
âplease donât mind her, what was she even bothering you about? â
âshe wants my brother, but he has a girlfriend and she was calling him faggotâ Sam said chewing down a healthy bite.
âso what if he is?â as the words were out, casâs mouth felt suddenly dry, and he felt his guts twist. Some weird rush of confidence made him say it, and immediately regret it.
âthen nothing, heâs my brother, Iâll love him no matter whatâ
Cas smiled at Samâs pure and honest words, feeling calmer.
The familiar sound of classic rock mixed the engine turning off made Sam jump and run to the door, but not before hugging and thanking Ms Novak.
âoh please Sam, it was nothing youâre always welcome hereâ he hugged her tighter before grabbing his oversized backpack and heading for the door. Cas was now sitting on the porch, like every other day, waiting for his dad to come from the shop.
Sam ran to his brother, opened the door and talked words cas couldnât really hear. After a few moments Deanâs gaze fell on cas, who for a moment felt hypnotized by how green Deanâs eyes were, almost electric he thought.
Realizing he was starring, he immediately looked away blushing.
The sound of steps forced Casâs head up from the ground, as he noticed a pair of bowlegs in baggy blue jeans and a worn acdc shirt underneath an oversized leather jacket.
âyouâre the famous castiel?â dean said with a grinn.
âuh.. just casâ he confirmed smiling shily and standing up, noticing Sam was peaking at them from the car window , with a proud expression.
âCas..well just wanted to thank you for looking out for my brother, means a lotâ
âwas the right thing to do, no need to thank meâ he replied , only now noticing the freckles complimenting Deanâs visage, remembering his mom comparing freckles to angel kisses a soft smile grew on his face.
âStill, thank you.â the freckled boy said offering his hand, hand that Cas not only shook but felt, it felt rough and calloused, like a long time worker cas thought to himself.
âOf course,âŚI think someoneâs getting impatientâ he pointed out, smiling at Sam who was trying to start the breathtaking car.
âoh crap! Again thank you man! â Dean repeated running to his brother, who was now laughing and shifting to his usual seat, shotgun.
Cas returned to his seat as the brothers drove away, and only then he felt like he could really breathe.
