The Amber Blur
Summary: Desperate to escape the suffocating "curation" of her life with Leander, she retreats to the shadows of the Undercroft. A late-night celebration involving a bottle of premium Firewhisky leads to a blurred, honest evening with her oldest friends.
Characters: Sebastian Sallow, Ominis Gaunt.
Word Count: ~1180 words
Masterlist
The familiar, damp scent of the Undercroft felt like a sanctuary.
Sneaking away from the library had been a tactical maneuver, one that required dodging Leander’s watchful eyes and the constant, suffocating offer of "help with her Charms essay." She was growing weary of being watched like a fragile artifact. She needed the shadows; she needed people who didn’t try to fix her.
Prompt 20 - Spirit
@wolfstarmicrofic October 20, word count 509
“Come on, Moony, get this down you!” Sirius bounded across the Potter’s garden where the Marauders had taken refuge from the party James’s parents had thrown while they were back for the Christmas Holidays. Remus had come out of the crowded house after being caught up in a conversation with Uncle Albert about his grandmother's ghoul and how it used to keep him up when he stayed at hers. Remus had been rescued by Monty, and he’d run out of the house. Sirius held up the bottle, and Remus glugged down a mouthful. It was some type of spirit that burned on the way down.
“Fuck!” He wheezed, suddenly breathless. He looked down at the bottle. Firewhisky. “That’s not bad actually,” He huffed, taking another good swig of the fiery drink.Â
“Looked like you needed it mate,” James clapped him on the back. “Sorry about Uncle A, he gets a bit carried away,”Â
“No worries your dad took care of it,” Remus grinned.
“At least they won’t find us out here for a while,” Peter said happily from his spot on the edge of one of Effie’s raised flowerbeds.Â
“Privacy wards,” Sirius supplied while Peter took a tentative sip from the firewhisky bottle.Â
They spent the next few hours passing the bottle around and making their way from the piles of nibbles they kept summoning from the dining room.Â
“Boys, it’s time to come in,” Effie called from the backdoor. They were all far too drunk to be the polite young gentlemen they were meant to be saying goodbyes to all the guests. Remus looked down at Sirius, whose head was resting in his lap, he was fast asleep.Â
“Boys!” Effie called again.Â
“Me and Pete will take this one for the team,” James grinned, clapping Remus on the back as he trotted across the grass with a swaying, slightly green-looking Peter following behind. “Try and get him upstairs into bed if you can,” James called over his shoulder.Â
“Sirius,” Remus whispered gently, stroking the curls off of Sirius’s face. Sirius stirred. “Sirius, it’s time for bed,” Sirius whined and rolled over, burying his head deeper into Remus’s lap. “Sirius,” Remus laughed. “Come on,” He tried to pull Sirius up into a sitting position. With a lot of effort, he finally came, but before Remus could haul him to his feet, Sirius slid onto his lap and kissed him. “Sirius,” Remus whispered quietly when the kiss ended, needing Sirius to realise who he’d kissed.Â
“Moony,” Sirius sighed and sunk into another sweet kiss. Remus kissed him back, earning a deep moan from the boy he’d held a torch for for over four years. “Come on, let’s get to bed before the others come back out to help,” Sirius grinned, sounding more sober than Remus had thought he was and stood offering his hand to Remus. Remus rolled his eyes but took it and couldn’t help the blush that covered his face when Sirius led him by the hand back into the house and up the stairs without saying goodnight.Â
Draco and Hermione attempt small talk over a glass of Firewhisky.
HERMIONE: Tell me about your business? What exactly does running a multi-conglomerate entail?
DRACO: Making ridiculous sums of money, mostly.
HERMIONE: That must be such humbling work, I’m sure. What types of businesses do you oversee?
DRACO: Luxury goods mostly; high-end clothing, jewelry, alcohol, real estate, and various other things in both Muggle and Magic markets.
HERMIONE: Interesting… I assume you’ve also been too busy to settle down? Although, from what I’ve seen, there’s no shortage of interest.
DRACO: Are you trying to tell me something, Granger?
HERMIONE: Hardly. It’s no secret. You show up to every photo op with a different model on your arm. I’m a little surprised you haven’t married one by now.
DRACO: Why’s that, Granger?
HERMIONE: You have all this, your family’s name, legacy, Malfoy Industries. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more surprised I am that a marriage wasn’t prearranged for you by your parents.
DRACO: Think about it often, do you?
HERMIONE: Unfortunately, I eat, sleep, and breathe the Malfoy name these days.
DRACO: Such humbling work, Granger, I’m sure. I’ll have to settle down one day; sire at least one heir and hope they’re interested in taking over Malfoy Industries. It won’t be with a model, though.
HERMIONE:Then why do you date them?
DRACO: I’m a man, Granger. I have needs, desires…and in my line of work…
HERMIONE: Models must be readily available.
DRACO: Precisely.
HERMIONE: A man of convenience, Malfoy, my, my.
DRACO: Judging me, Granger? We can’t all be… monks like you. Although, I’d wager that you’d be far less uptight if you’d…
HERMIONE: If I’d what, Malfoy, do tell?! Choose your next words carefully.
DRACO: If you’d… take your friend’s advice. The one that’s always calling, always asking you about your sex life or lack thereof.
HERMIONE: Are you trying to tell me something, Malfoy ?
DRACO: Hardly. By all means, continue to be the tightly-wound, work-obsessed bundle of neuroses with a hero complex and check off each one of the boxes on your to-do list. Brightest witch of our age and all, you wouldn’t want to let anyone down.
HERMIONE: You’re despicable, you know that?
DRACO: Likewise, Granger.

Sharpuary Day 4: Firewhisky
Chasing You at the Bottom of the Bottle
Sharp opened the new bottle of Ogden’s Finest Firewhisky - the one you had gifted him this past Christmas - and threw himself onto the chair in front of the fire in his chambers.
Unseeing, unfeeling, he chased down the whiskey with the burn of another gulp. Shot after shot, after shot.
It was the quickest way to remember the taste of you.

In the kitchen
Written for Day 16 of @hinnyfest
Prompt: Sharing Firewhisky
I could have sworn I already posted this but nope... long day. The following three for the coming days are some of my faves!
Ginny bumped Harry with her elbow. He was almost nodding off whilst the whole family was forced to listen to Celestina Warbeck for at least another few songs.Â
“Can you help me in the kitchen?” she asked him.Â
He looked a little more awake now as his eyes landed on her. He nodded and stood up, following her into the kitchen.Â
Ginny promptly walked into the pantry and came out with Firewhisky. Harry’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. She wordlessly took two glasses off the shelf and poured both of them a glass. She handed a glass to Harry and pulled the other towards herself.
“I won’t survive any longer without a drink,” she clarified, taking up her glass.Â
Harry picked up his glass too, his eyes twinkling. They clinked their glasses together before taking a sip.Â
“Much better.” Harry nodded. His hand came to her waist and pulled her closer. “I’ve always thought kissing you is … more intoxicating than Firewhisky could ever be.”Â
Ginny’s hands landed on his hips, a smile appearing.Â
“But the combination of the two really knocks it out of the park.” His arms wrapped around her, holding her to him as he kissed her.Â
Her hands moved up his sides. He had a point, the combination of kissing him with the lingering taste of the Firewhisky was perfect and she was much more awake than she was five minutes ago.Â
“Really?” George said, coming into the kitchen.Â
Their lips disconnected but Harry did not let go of her.Â
“I really thought you two would stop snogging left and right now that you live together but looks like” - George’s eye fell on the Firewhiskey and he cut off his sentence halfway. “Oh, Firewhisky! I need that.”Â
Harry let go of Ginny and took another glass off the shelf. Ginny filled it for him.Â
“This is why you’re my favourite sister,” George said with a grin.Â
Ginny shook her head. “If that’s your best compliment, just don’t bother next time.” She handed him the glass.Â
“How long do you think we can hide in here before it becomes suspicious?” Harry asked.Â
George shrugged, glancing towards the living room. “Until the end of the next song, I believe.”
