Requests for training were a rarity for the dragon. Maybe it was because he didn’t exactly make his talents known or maybe it was just due to his rather dull attitude towards his own class. It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy teaching, he quite liked it in fact. But he was old at heart and didn’t see the point in teaching those that had no interest in being taught and there were more than a few students in his class that weren’t interested in his own opinion nor did they desire his help. It seemed that overconfidence was a staple here and honestly, Ben was part of the group of people that could be described as overconfident but at least he had enough self awareness to realize he thought a bit too highly of himself.

But his own skills weren’t the topic of the day, the skills of a student were. An elf with a name very similar to his own, Ren, had come with the request of being helped with his fighting skills. Or more specifically, building up his own resistance against fire and learning to defend himself. Ben knew very little about ice, in fact, he was on the other end of the spectrum but he would always lend a hand to anyone that was willing to try and learn from him. It was fire that was needed and he was one of the few in the academy gifted with the ability to manipulate fire. It might have been the weaker between itself and ice but it made little difference. It was a class, not an actual fight. He was there to aid the student and help him build up his skills so that he could fully defend himself if need be.

What with it being summer he might have had the upper hand when it came to being surrounded by heat but he had specifically chosen a day where clouds covered the sky and the air was dampened with mist. It wasn’t ideal for him as fire worked best in dry weather but it would help Ren in a way, somewhat similar to the training wheels on a bike. Which again was why he had decided to train him outside rather than inside. That, and he was at less of a risk of burning the building down if his flames got out of hand. Not that he was going to let that happen but it was better to play on the safe side.
