it’s  been  so  long  since  he’s  heard  that  question ;    he  thinks  that  anakin  had  been  ten  or  so  the  last  time  he’d  asked ,   troubled  by  nightmares ,   and  judging  by  the  forlorn  tone  rey  adopts ,   she  has  come  to  him  for  the  same  reason.    obi - wan  lifts  the  blanket  in  invitation  and  scoots  back  against  the  wall ,   offering  a  drowsy ,   reassuring  smile.       “   of  course ,   little  one.    would  you  like  to  tell  me  what  is  troubling  you?   ”

"I hope that's not some roundabout way of askin' for a hug, cause I ain't much of a hugger."

Han turns to look at her, eyes cast in some sort of amusement. The amusement lasts only moments, however, when he allows himself to think of the implications of her statement.

Someone had told him once that most, if not all living things required some form of companionship - people, especially. Hell, he even has Chewie at his side one-hundred percent of the time. Who is he to judge the needs of another?

No, Han isn't much of a hugger, but he does have a soft spot in his chest that always seems to throb at just the right moments.

so i have a plot with @finalsteps where their rey is palpatine’s daughter, abandoned by palpatine because she was not born with a demon in her and therefore not “sufficiently strong” in the dark side of the force. padmé and anakin find the baby and anakin wants to fucking kill her for being the child of his abuser, but padmé convinces him to keep her and help raise her. at first anakin only cares for rey because of his love for his wife. but as he spends more time with her, he grows to genuinely love her because raising her was the chance at raising a young kid that he never got the first time when padmé took luke and leia away.

fast forward to rey learning her first words, anakin is holding her in his arms and trying to get her to say “dada.” rey stares up at him, wide-eyed and smiling obliviously as he continues to say the words. then, suddenly, she points at padmé and says “mama! mama!” as her first word. without missing a beat, leia looks her father straight in the eye and deadpans:

@finalsteps​  :      “every day i come in here knowing that one of these days that damn bed will be empty and every time, i feel like screaming and wishing i could tell the universe to take me instead, but they won’t. it’s you. they’re taking you. so tell me how i’m supposed to live with that?”

@finalsteps​ :     “   but   …   but  i  can’t  help  you  if  i  don’t  know  what’s  going on.    so  you  have  to  talk  to  me ,   please.  ”

his  hands  are  trembling ,   he  notes  vaguely ,   and  though  he  doesn’t  quite  care ,   he  curls  them  into  fists  in  his  lap  in  an  effort  to  hide  it ,   the  movement  instinctive.    agonized  eyes  lift  to  rey’s  face  as  she  speaks.    he  is  sorry ;    sorry  that  she  must  see  him  in  this  state ,   sorry  that  she  has  to  put  up  with  this ,   sorry  that  he  had  ever  allowed  his  attachment  to  satine  to  become  known  to  maul  in  the  first  place.    if  he  had  not  flouted  the  jedi  code  in  such  a  way ,   she  would  likely  still  be  alive  now.    as  it  so  often  does ,   the  blame  lies  squarely  at  his  own  feet. 

“   duchess  satine  was  killed.   ”       the  words  are  misshapen ,   out  of  place  somehow ,   on  his  tongue.    his  voice  sounds  far  away  to  his  own  ears.    that’s  how  it’s  been ,   ever  since.    he’s  yet  to  be  able  to  find  his  center  again.       “   darth  maul  killed  her.    i  could  not  save  her.   ”
