How Cinematic Can You Be If You Have No Money? — R.L. Scott
Film Courage: I’ve heard you mention composition many times. Do you even just go to Ralphs [a Los Angeles grocery chain] and say Okay this aisle I’m framing it here. I would do this over here?
R.L. Scott, Filmmaker: Absolutely. Yes. This was always a really big thing for me. I would notice the way things were framed and what I deemed cinematic. I always felt that was one of the weapons of a person who is an independent filmmaker or a content creator versus money. I always felt like that was one of those tools that could help make your project better:
*The way it’s lit;
*The way it sounds;
*The way that you compose your shots.
The term ‘cinematic,’ How cinematic can you be?…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).

A film crew is quickly bonded, through adversity and madness, into something between a family and a team of soldiers in a foxhole under fire.
Neil Gaiman (in 'The View from the Cheap Seats')
Terrific visit this morning by ex-Strode student Lila Babington who talked about her route through the Strode Art Foundation and on to an animation degree at NUA (Norwich University of the Arts) and - having also had her animation work ‘Tunnel Vision’ commissioned by ‘Random Acts’ . She has now graduated and is working in industry - currently on an internship with Bristol based production company ‘Calling the Shots’.
Steve is one of the founders of ‘Calling the Shots’ and he then talked about the BFI Film Academy, the Animation Camp in Bristol and about paths into the animation/film industry.
Todays session with our students also involved a short workshop in making a pixilation GIF. (*SEE ABOVE)

The main advice to anyone who wants to get into film is to make film; it's just do it, and not take anyone's advice about it.

it was hard watching footages of my parents and people from their generation who were bred during the wars, grew out of the communist era and have been struggling with the transition into a capitalist market under authorative government. i wonder if it feels worse than witneessing money sucking zombies of the capitalist world that Vietnam has been gearing fast into. i guess both feel heavy right when i am in each environment...
communism breeds egos of males, dictators that then pass down to people - male or female - as we have to obey, we don't know how to really listen and in turn, order others around. ego can be bigger and worse than the greed of capitalism?
looking forward to the days when vietnam would be an actual 'socialist republic' ~ just had to double check what is written on our passport because of course, how can i remember this title when we are so not it
p.s. empires, colonisation, corruption, corporations, white privilege, neo-colonialism ~ the rich are the ones who (have to) steal the most because money is all they (can) have...
