"Caught in a Cycle" is 20" x 20", oil on linen. It's still in the underpainting stage. Some people think my paintings in the beginning look like watercolors because the paint is so thin initially. This is the stage where I figure out the color, the values and the structure. The piece won't change much from here, just become more volumetric and layered. Sometimes color can cheapen and kill the meaning, so this piece will remain subtle. ( For me ) The working title for my current project here is: "Armor". It's in the first few hours of the underpainting. I expect the underpainting to take a week or two more as I build it up with volume and detail. I enjoy working monochromatically first with burnt sienna, umber and white on this piece. Presenting “Portrait of Aloysius Scrimshaw” 18x12” acrylic on canvas. I have to be honest, I really like hiding ciphers in my art. My friend @deadscrimshaw’s work is also packed full of puzzles, ciphers and other mysterious delights hidden just beneath the surface. So it only seemed right to put a few in his portrait. I’m sure you can find them, but I’m not going to tell you how to decode them. Mr. Scrimshaw can reveal those details if he wishes, however.
