#fic stealing

Heard about this on Bluesky, checked and they have four of my fics up! The site posts AI cover art and an AI-generated audiobook of your fic, along with the full text. I haven’t found a way to request fic get pulled from yet, I’ll update if I do.

I waited so long to make a post about this bc i was hoping the author would resolve the issue themselves, but that’s clearly not going to happen. Instead, the author has chosen to delete all my comments and not respond to me at all! I sent an abuse report to ao3 back in april, and so far nothing has happened. So I’m just tell anyone who wants to know.

First off, just wanna say this not about any of MY fics, idk the authors of the original fics and they’re fairly old, but they still don’t deserve to have their content stolen. 

So here’s the deal: raeganrolland on ao3 has plagiarized SEVERAL stories from at least 2 authors (edit: it looks like it’s actually one author! i just didn’t realize bc one of the fics was posted on livejournal under a different name!). They have repackaged the stories as stucky fics, but they are originally j2 fics. So they literally just replaced the names of the characters- and not even all the characters!

the wattpad user @/swagmaster51 has written a fred weasley fanfic. i got tagged in chapter 25 - and what do I find??? a good chunk of my own fucking fic breathless EDITED WITH THEIR OC’S NAME AND ‘you’ changed to ‘she/her’ AS IF THEY WROTE IT.

THIS IS NOT OKAY. THIS IS PLAGIARISM.

Oh sheesh! Not that I’m aware of currently, but if you guys ever recognize something feel free to let me know so I can deal with it. That’s terrible ☹️

Fic writers--

This tweet was in discussion in kidlit writer circles today.  Essentially, a fellow writer was alerting folks that Scribd is hosting a bunch of illegal copies of published books.

Which got me to wondering about fanfic.  So I went to the site, and seached for things like “johnlock”, “mystrade”, “mycroft Lestrade” etc etc etc. (you don’t have to create an account...just click on the three lines in the upper left corner and then click on search)  In the documents tab I found some fic that appears to be lifted from AO3. I didn’t search through everything, but I definitely saw ‘Nature and Nurture’ by  @earlgreytea68​. As Hannah’s tweet notes, users can’t report copyright infringement...it needs to come from the author.

I’m not going to say who this person is here, even thought I really want too. If you want to know who, private message me and I’ll tell you.

Honestly, I feel pretty hurt by this because I put my heart and soul into those fics and for someome to steal them...it hurts and it frustrating, because I would have never known if someone didn’t tell me and there is no way for me to get those stolen fics take down. I blocked the person in question that been stealing in hopes that will stop future attempts at stealing but still, I wish this never happened in the first place.
