Sorry for the weeks I was missing - I traveled over 30k miles in the last 3 weeks

I will say for this week's update - there were so many amazing big bangs - I'm not even caught up, and some will likely be featured in later updates this year when I run out of reading time, but these were some of the highest highs right now.

The Rook and the Princess by @fiberpunk027 and @merimeik

This may be one of my favorite DABB pieces yet - its a beautiful story about family - both found and those in blood. Its complicated and messy and painful but its so tender and soft at the same time. Marillia my beloved <3

Silent Lucidity by @spararts and @a-gay-bloodmage

another fic that was comfortable sitting in the uncomfy and uncertainty of relationships that can be so hard to capture. The relationship between Blackwall/Thom and Lavellan is so complex and fascinating. I loved it so much.

Strange Configuration by @justjasper and @keriweird

Body swap fic but its not focused on the quirks - instead the unsettling issues with being in anothers body and realizing exactly how your partner lives. Adoribull too! Its not usually a ship I read (I'm busy smooshing Bull against my dolls) but this one makes me want to read more.

In This World (It's Just Us)

“So, you understand, Mr. Tomlinson?” Harry says, watching as Louis glances around the room, curious and clearly more than a bit distracted. He gets a non-committal answer, an ‘um, yeah’ that Harry hadn’t even fully believed the first time around, let alone now, but he knows his job, knows the part he has to play.

“Alright, well, then we’d like to start our first trial immediately, if you’re alright with it.” Harry says as he opens the door to an adjacent room. He knows that it’s what he’s supposed to say, but even as he says it all he wants is to tell Louis to say no. To at least ask more questions. He wants him to stop and think for a moment, to realise that this all doesn’t entirely make sense. A facility that tests the strength of memories? That forces people to stay for an indeterminate amount of time? He wants to grab his arm and shake him, tell him to stop being so impulsive for one damn moment and actually think this through. 

“I’m alright with it,” Louis says, and Harry swallows back everything, instead leading him to the room next door and gesturing to a seat. He even manages to plaster on a smile when he hears what Louis says next. “though if we’re going to be working together, then, I’d like to know your name, if that’s alright. Seems a bit daft, calling you H. Styles in my head. Or that guy.”

It’s weird. It’s weird how all of this is exactly the same as before. He’d expected it to an extent. The clothes, the impulsiveness with which he’d signed all the papers, barely even glancing at them, nevermind taking the time to read them, seduced by the money that was promised. But the whole scene? Down to the same jokes, the same words and inflection? It’s eerie.
