The outsider scar definitely suits their internal alienation the best, seconded by the friendless scar, but if we view the scar as a connection to heartbreak, and in that moment heartbreak connected to beck's intrusive internal exhaustion that just wants it all to END because of the alienation and hopelessness (the emotion which i see as overriding all the other emotions heartbreak could have latched onto in that moment) that they feel, idk, i just feel like there's a lot that could have been done with that. Not mad or anythin that it aint there in the books anymore, just. Considering what could have been.

Once is happenstance, twice is a coincidence. Three times is a choice.

Or rather, she supposed the exact quote was, “three times is enemy action” and the irony of that was not lost in translation. In a way, this was the worst kind of fight, fought not with fists but with the open touch of palms sliding across bare skin. Gentle bruises, given in acts of love rather than violence, dotted her own neck and collarbone as certain as they colored his.

She often wondered how bitter they would taste in his mouth once he knew the truth. Once he knew that the hands that scratched down his back were the same that had struck him with ease, had defeated him in front of the world… what then would he think when he recalled the slide of his tongue across her lips, the taste of her skin, the way her legs wrapped around his hips so tightly when she came apart beneath his touch?

She could feel his mind so easily, like the warmth of the sun on her cheeks, breaking gently into her own thoughts like beams through clouds—fragments of how good she feels, how beautiful she is— I love her, love her, loveherloveherloveher.

There is a solar flare, bright and sharp and so hot that she feels as if it will burn it’s way through her very veins, cleansing the rot and ruin from her tired limbs and leaving her stripped and clean like bones under the hot sun. It is almost enough. His love is almost enough to make her give up everything, to forget her name and her plans and her revenge and just be his. To let him try and rub the pain and the anger from her as if it were a smudge upon her cheek.

…But there are things that can never go backwards once they happen, once it goes wrong and they had gone so wrong…and then no matter what was done, no matter who kissed it better... it stayed the same.

But these are not thoughts she has until after the sweat on her skin cools and the songs he lifted from her lips are silenced into soft even breaths; When he is laying on his side, his back to her, open and inviting and trusting.

She reaches out and touches him just once on the back of his neck.

They are a cliche of her own making.

I’m going to break his heart.

A certainty. A fact that needs no declaration.
