What you feed yourself matters.

If you eat all your quarantine snacks in one night, you’re going to make yourself sick.

If you keep that up. If you eat to pass the time in isolation, none of your clothes are going to fit when you come out the back side of this.

Because what feed yourself matters.

And it’s just as true for our soul as it is for our body.

What we see, what we hear. Who we associate with, what we pay attention to. We’re feeding ourselves all of that.

Whether it’s good stuff or bad stuff. Whatever we’re feeding ourselves, it’s going to change us.

If you grow more terrified by the day, about what we’re going through right now. If you’re focusing on stockpiling… anything, because that’s what’s going to save you. If you’re looking to make a windfall, off people’s fears. If you’re looking down on other people, because they’re scared.

If that’s who you’re becoming.

Then you need to take a hard look at what you’re feeding yourself. At what you’re consuming that’s turning you into that person.

You need to stop. And start feeding yourself something else.

That’s what today’s Gospel is all about.

What? All that “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, with all your strength. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself” stuff?

Yes. That’s what you need to be feeding yourself with.

It’s the only thing that can bring you peace in this crisis. The only thing that will give you the strength to make it through. The only thing that will give you the compassion to lift others who won’t make it through without you.

Because what feed yourself matters.
