Even though, she was alive. And she still is.
Kevin wants to believe she will live one more day, but Victor, who's already traumatized by all the deaths during the infection, doesn't want to celebrate too early.

Drawing at least one character bust everyday for the next week - Day 2: Nerissa Nightingale
Yeah I decided to go with my with more normal style with this one. The Sam and Maisie one ended being one of those "I looked it a few hours later and hated it" arts. I think I might redraw it on day 8.

Birds of a feather, stay together.
Yeah, whoever said that must have been stuck with a real nice group of friends. Unlike the Toppats.
Everything on the airship appeared to be calm to an outsider's point of view, a large hunk of metal flying through the sky. If they did see the massive airship, most would run and hide. Inside, various others walked around the halls. Some were in the kitchens, creating the next batch of meals, or just slipped in for a midday snack. Some were in their rooms, taking in the hours they have free, restoring energy. Some were just relaxing in the lounges, chatting amongst everyone else. Others were in the cockpit, helping pilot the massive ship. And some were struggling, in the process of shoving a frantic avian through the brig's doors.
The sobbing finally became muffled as the door was forced shut, the others groaning, the deed finally done. On the other hand, the avian, now locked behind the heavy metal doors, kept pounding against them, crying out. " PLEASE! I- I DIDN'T MEAN TO! I DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE THERE, PLEASE, I DIDN'T RAT YOU OUT, PLEASE- PLEASE- " Feathers fluttered down to the floor, them still crying out. " Please... I'm not... a traitor..... Please..." Now stuck behind the heavy metal doors of the brig, wings wrapped tightly around the shaking figure.
A sound arose from the next cell over, another pair of wings ruffling.
“ Nav? Er… you doing…. alright? Can you hear me alright?“
Nav only sniffed, lazily wiping his nose with his sleeve. Right... Dave was also here. Dave was still stuck here. Stuck in the brig for… god knows how long by this point. And now, he was in the same situation. He was just surprised he wasn't thrown in sooner. “ sniff .... y... yeah... I- I figured. You... were stuck here... for a while now... “
Dave chuckled darkly from the other side of the wall. “ Yeah… I don’t remember. “ His voice brightened, with a tone of painfully obvious false hope. “ But.. hey! We'll get out of here... somehow.. “
Nav huffed. “ How often have you even tried? “
“ Many times! “
“ … And how far did you always get? “ Nav’s tone grew bitter.
Dave’s voice went quiet. “ … Not… not that far… “
The silence that followed allowed the whirring of the giant turbines keeping the giant ship afloat helped to fill the quiet. The constant humming of the blades always shook the brig a little bit, and as the seconds passed, Nev let out a loud, tearful sigh.
“ .. Sorry. I… I know you’ve been here a long time- I didn’t mean it- “
A small chirp of relief from Dave’s cell made Nav finally relax a little. “ No no… you just got put here, you’re scared- “
“ I’m… I’m not scared. “
“ … Nav. You’re shaking. I can sense it from here. “
Nav’s wings stiffened, then drooped further down, resting around his shoulders.
“ … You know it’s okay to say you’re scared… right? “
“ What do you meaaaaaan, I’m not scared at all! ”
A flutter of new wings, one hand on the door of the chopper, Charles leaned back, peeking around the small wall to stare at the other. “ Never got scared from other missions before! ” That got an annoyed look from the other avian, who turned around to glare.
“ Don’t get cocky now, Calvin. '' Rupert huffed, his own wings twitching. “ You just need some files, and then you need to get out. ” Turning back to the controls, a few switches were flicked as the smaller vehicle approached the ship. '' You'll be dropping in during a shift and break change. It’s not too long, so- ”
“ It’s really been that long?? ”
Dave sputtered, now leaning up against the door. “ Has it already been an entire month? Are you sure the date is right? “
“ Sure as I can be, bud. ” Nav took a moment to stretch out his own wings, shaking them out. A few stray feathers fell to the bottom of the cell, fluttering down, as Nav wrapped his wings around his shoulders again. “ I mean… Maybe you got the date wrong? “
“ I mean… I don’t think I did? I got… taken up just after the- “
“ Tunisian Diamond robbery. More heist reports…. Wait, there! “
Charles pulled out a decently filed binder, and flipped through the pages. Papers upon papers of planned heists, locations and times noted neatly down. Which was quickly shoved under his arm, spare keycard left haphazardly on the table slid in one of the jacket pockets, then Charles paced over to the other door. He already came from that way, no good returning that way… Maybe the other hallway?
“ Well, I wouldn’t worry too much…. I mean, now that you got me, you’ll have me down here with you all the time, huh? “
Dave let out a laugh at that. “ Yeah, I guess you’re right. “
The doorway to the brig suddenly slid open, and a soldier stumbled into the hall. The door was soon closed behind them, and as they took one more step into the room, two pairs of eyes peeked out of the cell windows.
“ … Holy shi… “ Charles muttered. “ I… “ A hand went up to the headset, a worried look painted on his face. “ Rupert? Ran into the brig—-“
“ Dear god please don’t tell me you got caught— “
“ They got two guys locked up in here. “
The worried shout that followed was ignored by Charles, who approached Dave’s cell, holding the keycard out. Both of them stared at the small rectangular piece of plastic, and Charles winced. “ …. Dear god I hope this works “
A quick tap of the card against the small reader, and a few seconds as the indicator beeped.
One second…
Two seconds…
Click!
The heavy metal door slid open, and Charles had to quickly reach his arms out as Dave practically crashed into him, wings flapping a few times. Charles held him for a moment, patting his head, before moving on to Nav’s cell. And as the doors opened, Nav finally crept out of the cell.
“ Are any of you injured in any way? “
“ .. No, not for me… Nav? “ Dave looked over, tilting his head to the side. “ You got thrown in pretty hard… “
“ I’m… I’m fine… “ Nav’s voice quivered a bit. His hand reached forward, grasping and eventually taking hold of the sleeve of Charles’s jacket. The small action made him smile, as he pat the other avian.
“ Don’t worry bud, I’ll get you two out of here.
As the three started down another hallway, Charles’s hand went back to his headset. “ Rupert? You copy? I got the two out, circling back to pickup. “
A crackle, then an answer. “ Did you get anything else? Please tell me you got something other than them- “
“ Chill Rup, I got a whole binder of files, we should be- aw shit “
The door that they just passed slid open, and a toppat came out, shouting.
“ Uhhh, we should move, cmon get in front of me, quick!- “
But the moment never came. All Nav could feel was the burning, searing pain trickling from his side.
