upon hearing his words { desperate, filled with guilt } tris jolts to a stop, still showing her back to him. to the man she thought she can trust with all her secrets, the man she thought she can count on. clearly, she was wrong. foolish, even. now here it is again, the same feeling she had when her own brother { another man who she’d thought of as someone stable in her life } turned out to be a traitor. pale blue hues fixate on the ground, she feels anger, once again, rushing through her veins; uneven fingernails digging into the flesh of her palm.      she doesn’t care anymore. tris recalls the first time he’d told her how strong she was, the time when he’d bring her along to meet his mother           because he trusted her judgments. because he knew she would be honest with him, tell him if evelyn was only playing games using his longing for a mother, for a parent.                             she feels so small and weak now. 

she bites the inside of her cheek, her vision slowly becoming blurry & thememories just keep flashing mercilessly. he’d met with nita in secret, he’d chosen nita’s path over hers, he’d let them attack everyone, he, too, was responsible for uriah’s state, but none of these were nearly as painfulas the fact, that { despite her obvious love } he believed he was damaged.like those feelings meant nothing to him. like she meant nothing to him.honesty, trust, strength, sharpness      he’d never truely given her what he promised.

                                  he’d betrayed her.tris blinks the tears away & straightens. she still needs a few seconds to make sure her voice won’t break when she speaks, that she can remain{ or at least just seem to be } cold and indifferent. makes sure her wordswill stab when they sink in.
