He both doesn't act like a child and is hilariously clearly a nerfed demon but also does act like a child sometimes, sometimes he's straight up feral but others he's serious, sometimes combination etc etc

I find interesting that Mithrun is still captain of the Canaries.
He needs constant supervision. He needs to be told when to eat and sleep. He needs to be reoriented because he has terrible sense of direction - so bad it even affects his teleportation powers.
Not to say he's incompetent, far from it... But it's an unique situation. Mithrun only lives to kill the demon that left him in those conditions. It's his only drive. He doesn't care about anything that isn't his mission - literally, to the point that others have to care for him. He is trusted with his position and authority, but can't be trusted with himself.
His desire to kill the demon is the only reason he's captain. It's what makes him so focused and strong. It gives him importance as well as one reason to live.
No wonder he was shattered by the end. Not only he lost that one reason to live, but probably felt completely useless to his only companions, who maybe in his mind only cared for him because he had to be captain.
I'm glad Senshi convinced him that he's more than mere scraps :)
