This is kinda of like a book cover for Beat to Quarters. My favorite scene in the book (other than Bush fanboying with Barbara) is where Horatio confronts El Supremo at the end of the book and I always wanted to draw it.

Hornblower:
I think the reason so many Sean Bean characters had to die was because he used up 47 lives to survive Sharpe. Richard Sharpe should have been dead about 4 times an episode yet he Survived. The scales had to be balanced somehow.

Original Hornblower Covers
These wonderful original pieces of art were commissioned by C.S. Forester for all 11 Hornblower titles. I could not find all 11 original pieces of art, unfortunately.
Doug works mainly with pencil and an old and dated technique called “scratch board” which gives his art a very unique and distinctive appearance and appeal.

One of the things that makes Dredge such a great game to me is the how the npcs seem more annoyed by the monsters in their backyards than scared of them. Like oh yeah. This one-eyed serpent is tunneling through our cliffs. Fuck that guy. Oh I was just minding my own business doing research and this fuckass tentacle monster emerged from the deep and attacked, and now I can't finish my research smh. Literal eldritch horrors outside and they react to it as though it were an unwanted beaver or other troublesome critter. An unknown horror from the depths of the sea will rear its ugly head and they're like damn, this will affect the trout population. I love every character in Dredge for this.

'Nelson was Struck Down by a Shot from the Rigging', illustration from 'Heroes and Heroines of English History' by Alice S. Hoffman
I am both Nelson and that marine at all times.
Mr Simpson, are you saying Mr Hornblower brought this charge against you purely out of malice?
I maintain the charge against Mr Simpson, sir. However, since I cannot prove it other than with my body, I have no choice but to accept his challenge.
Post Captain, Chapter 8
In which Stephen Maturin, the most learned cove, Mediterranean man through and through, forgets about the phenomenon of the tide in the ocean and loses his boots, then proceeds to dive into freezing water to the great consternation of the poor crew. Who cannot fathom how a man so full of intellectuals could be SOOOOOO stupid.

Robert Lindsay was fitted with hair extensions to create the appropriate look for the character and period, which caused some problems, both on and off set.
He explains: "People in Yalta find it a bit strange to see men with pigtails. When four of us went out to eat in town when we first arrived, we realised the police were taking an interest. Sure enough, they later stopped us, got into our car, and tried to arrest us." Back in England, his daughter did quite the opposite. "She took one look at my hair and refused to get into the car with me."
The hair extensions, painstakingly woven into the actor's real hair, remain in situ all through filming.
every time i hear the phrase "lesser of two evils" i respond "lesser of two weevils" and no one ever understands. no one ever remembers...them
