On The Gameoverse Controversy
So recently there has been a controversy surrounding Gameoverse, claiming the fact only Kit and Miss Information wearing swimsuits is misogynistic.
This controversy is extremely forced and only really seems to be coming from full grown adults who want an excuse to hate on the new Glitch show aka Gameoverse.
People are being obtuse and purposefully ignoring the fact their swimsuits are meant to be disguises so they don't stand out in the ocean themed world.
Alongside this is fact the swimsuits are and look practical, as opposed to the impractical fan service swimsuits given to female covers in anime. Aka what people are trying to act like this is, that it is only meant to appeal to the male gaze and weirdos.
Something what was made even less likely given it was apparently a woman who designed these outfits for this episode.
Meanwhile people are ignoring the fact there really wasn't any other human or human adjacent characters in this episode that warranted a swimsuit. Fold for example was literally shapeshifting into different forms that fit with the ocean themed world, and video game rules as a way to remain in disguised.
Meanwhile Learnosaurus is small dinosaur, what can you really do there? Kaboodle is just straight a backpack. And the Floaties are goons, cannon fodder.
Now something that doesn't work as a defense of this episode is some people are trying to say there is fan service for women in this episode. The typical bad argument by pointing to things aren't meant to appeal to women nor typically do, as well as being pretty laughable. The prime examples being Warrick and Flappers simply having muscles being classified as fan service for women....... LIKE NO!!
At most the only one that likely can fall under that category is Kit's boss Dusk.
That being said, something I do hate about this is this nothing burger controversy is mishandling feminist topics, and can be easily used as a means to dismiss any legitimate criticism for actual issues. For example, a lot of anime's problem with writing female characters poorly and constantly sexualizing them for the male gaze.
Overall this controversy is stupid. Written by Eris the Lorekeeper
