The Captain of the Dead's role in the whole franchise

Bonus : protector of smiles

Yet it's true there are remarks that make you have doubts :

Pandora having him promise "AND NO WOMEN" one episode he must leave the house to find inspiration and she reminds him to truly follow his goal instead of "having fun", and the whole case with Nadou : the fact she moved away because Pandora and her had a fight over him, Fantomate wiggling his eyebrows at the audience saying "he doesn't look like it, the Captain, but..." about his charms, the Captain always stumbling about her to justify himself "SHE UH IS A FRIEND", Pandora ironically stating that she used to "teach [him] a lot of things about love" to which he insists they only were being artists, the way he whispers her name over and over as he falls asleep during that episode, the fact he had given her a role in his opera despite her not singing well and posed naked for her for her painting, and when Pandora disappears after a picture was taken of her (Nadou's evil scheme in the episode was a cursed camera that trapped you inside pictures) he makes promises hoping she would reappear and one is basically "I won't see Nadou again- UH I mean it's not like I saw her anymore !"

I REALLY WISH THOSE ARE NOT PROOFS

Maybe, like, she kept attempting seducing him and almost managed to tempt him in his instincts ? Or maybe he wouldn't have cheated anyway but because she did love his art and that flattered him so he sticked around for once someone understood ? Or she had some "charisma" some people have so he really kept visitting because she just was very attractive as well as flattering but it didn't go further because deep down Pandora was just still the one ? Maybe since he does love when he sees women are attracted by him it was just a flex from him for his ego which he would rather like to hide from Pandora since she is easily jealous hence his poor attempts at justifying himself ? Maybe it's like for Bois Dormante a friend he still sees because a friend and "defends" but still feels tries to hide it and his ego can't help but be flattered by proving himself he still got game with ladies but in the end doesn't go too far because he still cares for his wife ? "Love" Pandora caught thel talking of or looking like was maybe due to poetry and opera, art in general, Nadou using those as a pretext to flirt ?

Like a bit like that Simpsons episode Homer of Seville in which Homer flirts with his fans because it feels good which angers Marge, perhaps, just an ego thing but no further. Or even maybe like Mindy with Homer, he FELT something but ultimately his marriage and love for his wife was stronger so he resisted like Homer did, but unlike Marge who was not aware and Mindy who did not insit, Pandora was aware and rightfully pissed and jealius and Nadou (being a villain) took it badly hence her revenge in the episode against everyone him included (but still then if she had turnt out revengeful and evil HOW didn't he notice anything WHY did he keep vistting, even if just platonically, if we can refer to his wordslip until he pathetically corrects himself ? She was plotting the whole time making it seem she had accepted the ultimate rejection and pretended to have accepted to be friends ?)

To repeat past words, yes maybe it's like for Bois Dormante, he likes her as a friend and his ego loves that she is beautiful and so faithful to him (unclear if he knows she is more than attracted but straight up in love, Pandora sure knows and hates it) but of course it goes nowhere, but he panics and clumsily makes up things when Pandora comes because he knows she is jealous of beautiful women around him and doesn't want her to imagine things even if he has nothing to really reproach himself. He even is a bit shocked and disappointed before shrugging it off in the end of the movie when Bois Dormante moves on not spoilering but GOD DO I HATE THE ENDING

Maybe indeed the Captain loves to have his ego flattered and being reminded he's got game towards ladies, so even without cheating he still doesn't mind letting himselg be flirted and can slip a flirty joke to make sure tp rail up his fans (a bit like rockstars with fan girls). We see how he loves telling heroic stories of his past to kids or other guys and likes the attention and to see he is being listened to, maybe it's even the same or even bigger for his ego when it's women he sees find him hot. Like we see with the sirens when sure he is hypnotized in a way he forgets about time and his loved ones, but still has enough free will to do what he wants to fo with the sirens (as long as they still have control on him of course) and it's bragging proudly about his adventures as they surround him and as he lies down on a long chair with a glass. And he does pose very proudly for Nadou like "aaay she knows I'm hot shit that's why she wants me to pose naked !". So maybe, what if when Pandora warns him about "NO WOMEN" when he is going out it's not because he cheated on her in the past but bragged with them basking in their admiration and flirts and being jealous by nature that's enraging ebough for her ? Pluuuus mayne having his wife as well as beautiful women finding him beautiful (lile Nadou or Bois Dormante) is a huge tap on his ego so perhaaaaps on a subconscious level he loves to see these fights happen so he doesn't do much to stop them, plus a proof of love from his wife that he must secretly cherish or he would have opposed long ago

In fact come to think of it the reversed situations happens too and we know Pandora doesn't cheat, so we could base his way of thinking on hers : because Pandora too LOVES when men flirt with her (not a creepy way, at this moment she is on the denfensive from the start and she is always right to do so given how creepy they are afterward) and even can be playful about it, like how she smiles with Michel's grandfather being very touchy flirty and she playfully reminds him he is married. Plus she loves to know she is beautiful (the way she smiles brightly when Michel calls her beautiful and gets pissed when he then adds he finds Bois Dormante as beautiful as her ; then again she is jealous fot other things about her so it might just have been the last straw) and loves to be looked at by them, solely why she enters a fashion show as a model in one episode. And just like her when the contrary happens, the Captain is JEALOUS AS FUCK. And we can suppose that him subconsciously loving to see her being jealous and fighting over him could also be based on her once again : because she herself is playful if not proud when he is being jealous and protective of her. She must have the same big ego he has with her love of being looked at positively ig not oggled at, of course, they probably fell in love and married because they had a lot in common after all lmao

And in fact, an interesting point comes in that same fashion show episode : despite the fact we know Pandora doesn't cheat nor intend to (she just wants to be admired and feel hot), the Captain enrages and complains to Fantomate he is sure she will and is gonna do it there, only for Fantomate to momentarily calms him down somewhat by making him rationalize. So who knows ! Basing ourselves on that parallel, maybe that's the same thing for the reversed situation : the Captain doesn't cheat, he just finds the attention intoxicating, but Pandora is sure the contrary can happen in her jealousy. But in the end of day, none of them cheat on each other because they are in love for real past their conflicts

In conclusion, I doubt adultery or abuse ever happened between Madame Pandora and the Captain of the Dead. Sure they love to brag and be flirted with and may flirt in return for fun and hypocritically are jealous when the contrary happens, and maybe that's a bit more complex between the Captain and Nadou, but nothing happened either because instincts lose against brain and heart

These 2 are flawed and not complex, but that makes them humane and fun cartoon and comic characters, and they are in love anyway despite all of this all while being great parents, so that's why I love them
