Almost every character whose put into the trope of character a and b "I love you" (I'm mostly talking about the characters who are put on the 'I love you') side) "fuck off" (persisting unreciprocated love) has made out to be unredeemable monsters at one point or another by both canon and fanon which is 10x more likely if they're a girl, and if they're a guy it's usually that he's made out to be a punching bag and a wuss.
And so many times usually if they don't want the character to be unredeemable they sanitize it as if the character has never ever had those feelings toward the one who doesn't reciprocate.
And I can't place my finger on it but it kind of bothers me the way that it's treated. We need to be more comfortable with the lack of reciprocation of strong feelings because it happens in real life! We don't live in a world where everything goes the way we want it to, and it's important to have characters to represent those things, and show how to deal with it healthily.

a lot of ppl seem to think fan artists are inherently cool and interesting but literally all we do is draw sad stuff about fictional characters we have an unhealthy attachment to and then cry about it
i honestly love it when people say "nobody gets (insert character) like i do" because yeah! everyone experiences media and relates to characters in a different, personal way and i think that's beautiful :3
