#fandom natter

Like, I haven’t watched football in a minute, haven’t written fanfic in a minute (save for itsadrizzit’s birthday, but that was in the works for a while) and due to the menagerie I’m in the middle of, I can’t podfic (let’s put it this way, a cat just... got sick on my bedsheets the other day).

gonna spend the night queing up all the Readalong posts I missed for the blog (why oh why did comments peak while I was gone? Why was I gone as we started my favorite part of the book? NEVER LEAVING HOME AGAIN.)

and then contemplate whether I should even bother posting into it again myself

‘ cause if I do then holy heck  I am behind and need to scramble because we’re coming up on a chapter that I need to either post on or just officially give up about 

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves (chars you’re neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike)

OH WOW, uh. In LM the characters are pretty much divided between, like, 90 percent DARLINGS WHO DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER and 10 percent  THE ACTUAL WORST. Characters I am just ambivalent about are pretty few! 

...So, Marius then! Uh- I actually think he handled the Gorbeau robbery affair pretty well! Once he actually got moving. He came up with an inventive solution that not only didn’t force him to choose between loyalties, but actually helped Valjean more than directly alerting the police might have. And like of ALL POINTS IN HIS STORY that one would have been a totally legit place to choke! Most people are not prepared for Sudden Violent Crime In My Building!  So good job, kid, you did okay!

*hits shuffle* Frank Turner, If Ever I Stray-- definitely a Grantaire song, wow. 

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas)

MOONQUAKE LAKE AU. Imagine one of your OTP is a fish and the other is a child of a beet farmer! They have to avert intergalactic war! GO!

I am Old On Tumblr?? And  so I’ve lived long enough to know fandom *gasp* BEFORE THE INTERNET and sometimes it’s still so bizarre to be able to find people who like what I like--which is some obscure stuff! -- just with tags or whatever. IT IS A PRECIOUS GIFT AND BETTER IN EVERY WAY, and if anyone starts rhapsodizing about the Good Old Days then THEY should have to lose their Internet Fandom Privileges and spend a while enjoying the Fun Times of finding people who like their most obscure interest armed with all the raw networking power of comics letter pages, geez

it was a dark time
