With an icy chill in the air, the Hyuuga had chosen to remain indoors, meditating in his study. It was peaceful in front of the floor length windows which faced the trees and small sparrows that interrupted the day’s silence as they pecked at the seeds left for them. Neji shifted, focusing on the nothingness of the void inside and outside himself with a jounin’s practiced concentration. It was quiet. There was nothing around, no one to disturb his much needed day of recuperation.
A small noise from inside his home rather than outside drew his attention, eyes opening and turning to the western style futon on the side of the room, on which lay his scarf with an injured creature wrapped warm inside. He had feared she may not survive the trip from the battle site to his home as he carried her back, injured as she was but the winged creature still breathed so he’d left her to rest, Konoha’s medics unable to do anything for one so different to humans as her. Luckily only her wing seemed to have lasting damage so he hoped that she would make it when given a warm place to recuperate.
He retrieved a plate from his desk and knelt beside the futon, observing her as she moved. “Mm, yosei-chan, don’t strain yourself. It’s only me here. I will not touch you.” He set the plate down next to the scarf, atop which sat a sliced mandarin orange. Monks offered the fruits to the spirits at their altars, giving him hope that such was the preference of the spirit in front of him. “Are you hungry? I’ve brought this for you but you may have what you please. Do you drink tea?”
