The European Union is about to vote for “Chat Control 2.0” on Monday and why that is a problem
Privacy empowers. Surveillance weakens.
Chat Control 2.0 will be used to look at all the private conversations of every European citizen with an AI in order to look for child abuse and predatory practices.
The problem is that it destroys privacy and anonymity. The AI used mostly flags innocent content and even the very children it is trying to protect: consensual sextext and pictures of children at the beach.
All those data’s are sent directly to the authorities, your pictures and your texts, if the AI deems something is wrong, can and will be viewed by the police.
This makes it harder for the authorities to keep track of genuine predatorial behaviours while being flooded with falls reports.
And the problem is that, once it is put in place, it isn’t just “predatorial content” that will be able to be flagged. It could be expended to anything, anything the governments don’t want people to talk about.
What you can do:

Learn about the EU Chat Control proposal and contact your representatives to protect digital privacy and encryption.
You can tag all the people you know. Tell it to all the people you know. The more noise we make, the more they will have to listen:
