it says "existence is enough" and is right next to another tattoo of a goldfish in a bag.

my mom laughs, i think she's laughing at the silly fish tattoo.

nope.

she says "not my perspective, but okay"

to the tattoo

that say

"existence is enough"

in front of her child that has attempted suicide.

which she is fully aware of.

a mantra that keeps many people out of the place i was in a year ago.

one that can get people through the day.

this man is an olympian.

but he has a mental health journey like everyone else.

i bring this up and she says, "i guess he has gone above expectation."

which, yes, obviously he has.

but that doesn't mean he wasn't ever at a low point where the only thing he could do was exist.

the idea that you have to contribute to society is a completely ridiculous idea, especially when contributing means working for some big corporate company is the best option.

existence is enough.

getting through the day is enough.

and for the people, like my mother, who have never been that low that they never want to live through another day.

i am happy for you.

but when you say something that insinuates that existence isn't enough?

i will see you as less of a person for that.

you are lucky enough to wake up and want to contribute.

instead of gathering up the courage to just exist.

all that said.

you do matter.

live through the day.
