Sorry! Free will as a concept! U caught me post yoga practice so I was so zen I was like who is will where are we freeing him to?
My thoughts on free will and superstition are actually quite similar because I think exercising superstition IS an act of free will.
Like, there's so many kinds of superstition. Sports superstition, spiritual/religious superstition, familial/generationally passed down superstition etc. and some of it is really lovely and some of it is not.
Like, have you seen sheep Detectives? The superstition of Winter Lambs is very harmful to my little baby the winter lamb. However, evil eye superstitions and folk superstitions have kept people--namely women-- alive during extremely harsh political/socioeconomic climates (and also gotten them killed in others).
Like, to me, Free Will, superstition and intelligence go hand in hand. The more committed you are to critical thinking and learning and growing, the more free will you have because you're not becoming a drone for propaganda. Superstition is part of a really deep cultural tie to Something which is actually really important for survival and choosing when to connect to that, versus deciding it's just some form of bias is VERY important.
The capitalist overlords want you to reject free will and they love/hate superstition because it can work in their favour for controlling the masses but if you cultivate free will (ie intelligence and critical thinking) you understand the difference between harmful superstition (winter lambs are bad luck we must reject them) and cultural superstition (any weary traveller may be a god in disguise so I must be kind and hospitable to them --> forms a society of trust and mutual respect)
Free Will in this day and age is also developing compassion and the rejection of personal identity btw. If you were wondering.
I could make a whole post about how personal identity the way it's cultivated in North America + among the wealthy is POISON !!!
