Hey! I love your stuff and was wondering if you've thought about writing one where Jack basically "can't" even more. Particularly in one of your "Jack works 2 jobs after adopting Race and Crutchie and is still barely scraping by" AUs. Like... Jack collapses or something because his body literally CAN'T HANDLE all the stress he's putting it through. Honestly, it's what I think about every time I come away from one of your stories. Just a thought! Thanks for your amazing content!
So sorry this took so long friend! This is honestly interesting to me. I donāt always think about it because I always write Jack as not truly caring that he has so much weight on his shoulders, so he doesnāt ever let it get the better of him, but he totally has to have some kind of limit.
This is a short little scene (hopefully one more to come)
Jack: 20
Crutchie: 15
Race: 7
Race is on his back. If there was one thing Jack could focus on, it was the fact that his baby brother was up on his back.
It was getting harder and harder to continue moving forward. But he couldnāt stop now. Race was falling asleep on his back.
He loved it when Race fell asleep on his back. The boy would nuzzle his little nose into the crook of Jackās neck and start softly snoring. Crutchie loved to snap pictures of that. Jack would never stop him. His brothers were so darn cute it wasnāt fair.
But right now, Charlie was almost a block ahead of him. And Jack was having trouble stopping himself from leaning heavily on the walls beside him.
It was late. He needed to get the boys to bed. He needed to get their lunches packed for the next day. He needed to finish the laundry and make sure the boys brushed their teeth and washed up before bed. Race needed to take a bath.
His dance recital had run late.
It had to be close to ten. He loved watching Race dance. The boy was never happier doing anything else. He loved watching Crutchie have a sort of job at those kinds of things. He got paid to be the kidsā photographer. He loved nights like tonight. He loved it when Miss Medda gushed about how Tyler was one of the three little boys who continued on with dancing and how she loved to see him working so hard.
He loved it.
But he couldnāt help the feeling of wanting to leave. Of wanting to go home. Of wanting to sleep. He felt guilty. His brothers were happy. And he was too. But he couldnāt be happy at that moment.
He knew there were bags under his eyes. He knew his legs were shaking. He knew there was an ache in his stomach and a pain in his chest. He knew it was a cool night and he was still sweating like it was the middle of summer. He felt nauseous. His arms felt weak. His eyes were hardly open.
But he kept going. He had to keep going. His little brother was falling asleep on his back.
He had to get him home.
It was only a ten minute walk from the subway back home.
Why did this ten minutes feel like a lifetime?
It took far too long for Jack to realize that Crutchie had turned back. That the reason it was taking him so long is that heād stopped moving. His hand was on the brick wall beside him. āJackie?ā his brother asked. āAre you alright?ā
Jackās head spun. He felt Racer shift on his back and a hand came down on his arm. āBubba?ā
He had to get Racer bathed. He had to make sure the kids brushed their teeth. He had to finish the laundry. He had to pack lunches. He had to check his work schedule for Jacobiās and then the bar. Jacobi would kill him if he was late again. Weasel would fire him if he missed a shift. He could afford it.
Their social worker was doing a follow up with them on Monday. He had to clean the apartment.
āJack, do I need to call somebody?ā Charlie sounded panicked. āJackie?ā
āCrutchie, whatās happeninā?!ā Tyler sounded like he was crying.
Jackās knees hurt. Since when was he on the ground?
He felt the weight on his back get heavier. Tyler cried out. And Jack fell down to his hands and knees.
There was a sharp pain in his chest. He clutched at it, trying to magically make it go away. His eyes were squeezed shut. It hurt to breathe.
āCh-Charlieā¦ā he managed to force out. āT-Take himā¦ā
Charlie did so without hesitation. āJack, do I need to call an ambulance?!ā
Jack couldnāt answer him. His head was pounding with every word his brother was shouting. Instead, he fell all the way to the ground, his side hitting the pavement as he rolled onto his back and found himself staring up at the bright streetlights. So he closed his eyes.
Thatās when he felt small, frantic hands on his chest. āJackie, wake up! Wake up!ā
āTyler! Tyler, stop!ā Charlie cried, trying to hold the boy back. Jack tried to reach up for his baby brotherās hand, but he was fading fast. He was trying to fight it as best he could.
It was all too much.
āI need an ambulance! M-my brother! He passed out on the sidewalk! Please, I donāt know whatās wrong with himā¦ā Charlieās voice faded as the darkness came to swallow Jack whole.
The last thing he could hear were the cries of his brother, his two little boys, before everything went black.
It's one of those days where I slept enough but I still feel exhausted.
Fight me.
I'm so tired and sad i dont know why.

Exhaustion
There are some days, even weeks, that feel like they suck the life out of you. Thus week has had a few of those. Some of the behaviours and defiance are just enough to make me wish I could crawl under a rock. I was talking to another parent who has adopted a couple of kids with FASD. I commended her for making it. She said the teen years can be tough, especially with hormones and all of the funā¦
