What does this mean for requests?

Hey y’all! I have been in Seoul, South Korea for over a month now and I am absolutely loving it. I thought I would drop some of the tips I would have wanted a month ago to hopefully help you all. Feel free to share and add your own tips!

Make absolutely sure you know which bus you need to take. Find it in the language of the place you are staying, bus stops have incredibly specific names and if you generalize you will not end up in the correct spot. (This is from a very traumatic personal experience as you can tell ahah)

Bring more than one pair of shorts.  Climate change is real (terrifyingly) and places that get cold quickly can stay warm for a long time.

If you do not bring it with you, buy a bowl, plate, utensils, mug, and a pot as soon as possible. I waited a month and ate really unhealthily as I was unable to use any kind of cutlery. 

Find a place for comfort food. I found this great place with burgers, fries and shake, so whenever I am feeling a bit homesick, I go there. 

Get a routine! This is the perfect time to start some new good habits. Find a process in the morning/evening that gets you done as quickly as possible. Especially with morning classes, it is really nice to be able to shower, etc without much thinking. 

One of my philosophies here as been to try any food that has been put in front of me. I often am not sure what I order because the menu is in Korean, but I haven’t been disappointed yet. Also apple soda is fantastic. 

Try to do as much as possible, but don’t feel you are wasting your exchange if you stay in. 

Studying will be different for you in a different country. Find what works for you will be difficult but I promise that you’ll figure it out. Just make sure that you are keeping up with the basics.

While it may be easier to make friends with other exchange students, find a situation to meet natives. I joined a club to help Koreans with their English, and not only have I made some incredible friends and joined a musical, but honestly, it is also nice to go out to eat with them and not be stressed about communicating with the staff. 

Learn some basic greetings/courtesies. A little kindness goes a long way.

Hello dear readers, and welcome back, or to, my blog! Now, I thought I would share some exchange tips with you! As you may know, I am an exchange student in Michigan, USA, in a place called Beverly Hills (ironic I know;)). So, as an exchange student, I may have some advice that could be useful if you have been thinking of going on exchange, or are an exchange student now. Soo without further or due, lets get in to five tips and tricks for exchange students. 

1) Start the process of applying to an organization early, and stay motivated. From your first application to actually boarding the plane is a long and challenging journey, taking up a lot of time and resources, so be sure you want to go and start early!

2) Don't listen to closely when it comes to packing. Pack what you want, and pack so that you feel comfortable with the amount of stuff you bring. I brought to suitcases and that was perfect for me. One of my friends brought one, and she is just fine to! I all comes done to your personal preferences, and also if you are planning to buy a lot when you get to your host family. 

3) Try to look at the positive side of things, and go outside of your comfort zone. Exchange is all about new experiences and to be open and smile a lot is crucial.

4) KEEP TALKING. Living in a new country usually requires you learning and speaking a new language. Even though it may be hard, and the transition can be challenging from speaking your native language to always speaking a foreign one, don't take the easy way out and find someone that speaks your language. Throw yourself out there and speak as much as you can. 

5) This may be a very individual tips, but for me coming to America, and transitioning from an Norwegian to an American school, wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought. As long as you got the language down, its to be honest now very difficult, just pay attention and work with the material, and you will find it is basically the same as you are used to. Especially if you are coming from a country with a good school system. school is nothing to be to worried about. So relax, and have fun, and don’t worry too much about school!
