using today's game to shamelessly plug the fic i posted last night -- it's Alex as a V&A nighttime security guard (a really, truly awful one, though lmao) and the prince who visits at night that he's supposed to leave alone

When it’s only Alex, the silence is almost eerie—the marbled statues seem to watch him as he traverses the floor and the sounds of his shoes against the tile feel too fucking loud. He’s spent enough nights without the prince now, with nothing to do but wander the pieces, that he thinks he’s memorized every crevice and line on every single artwork on every single floor.   They are all rigid and unchanging, hard stone and still images.  Beautiful, yes, but ultimately lifeless. On the evenings when Henry visits, though, Alex gets to experience a different kind of masterpiece—illegally tall frame moving around the rooms, breathtaking eyes that stare reverently at the art, soft lips pressed together as he observes and lets Alex shadow him, a ring on his pinky that he twists while he gazes pensively up at figures twice his height.  Sometimes, Henry stands so still that he could be mistaken for one of the statues, porcelain and perfect marble, gentle sloping planes of his face that the most renowned artist could never replicate. Artists like Bernini and Michelangelo spent their entire lives trying to create wonders that will never rival this man.

I also love the implication that 2 puppies are playmates but 3 puppies...brigade. We are at WAR we are fighting for SNUGGLES, we are the Brigade, dammit! In that case, onward forward soldier, come on and join the fight 🫡
