The Apple Tree Apples and The Earth Peoples: Where There Are Rocks "Look, here is a tree in the garden and every summer is produces apples, and we call it an apple tree because the tree "apples." That's what it does. Alright, now here is a solar system inside a galaxy, and one of the peculiarities of this solar system is that at least on the planet earth, the thing peoples! In just the same way that an apple tree apples... "And as I said, if it is there, in us, it is symptomatic of the scheme of things. We are as symptomatic to the scheme of things as the apples are symptomatic of the apple tree, or the rose of the rose bush. The Earth is not a big rock infested with living organisms, anymore than your skeleton is bones infested with cells. The Earth is geological yes, but, this geological entity grows people, and our existence on the Earth is a symptom of the solar system and its balances. As much as the solar system in term is a symptom of our galaxy, and our galaxy in its term is a symptom of a whole company of galaxies." “Where there are rocks, watch out! Watch out, because the rocks are going to eventually come alive and they are going to have people crawling over them. It is only matter of time, just in the same way the acorn is eventually going to turn into the oak because it has the potentiality of that within it. Rocks are not dead. You see, it depends on what kind of attitude you want to take to the world… ...You cannot get an intelligent organism such as a human being out of an unintelligent universe. So in any lump of rock floating about in space, there is implicit human intelligence. Don’t differentiate yourself and standoff against this and say ‘I am a living organism in a world made of a lot of dead junk, rocks and stuff.’ It all goes together, those rocks are just as much you as your finger nails.” ~ Alan Watts #theearthispeopling #alanwatts #philosophy #evoltion #art #artist #instaart #illustrator #illustration #outsiderartist #outsiderart #infp #mixedmedia #digitalillustration #digitalart

“Cosmic evolution may teach us how the good and evil tendencies of man have come about: but, in itself, it is incompetent to furnish any better reason why what we call good is preferable to what we call evil than we had before...The fanatical individualism of our time attempts to apply the analogy of cosmic nature to society...The cosmic process has no sort of relation to moral ends...Let us understand, once and for all, that the ethical progress of society depends not on imitating the cosmic process, still less in running away from it, but in combating it.”
--T.H. Huxley

How did we get here?
Our bodies are the product of millions of years of evolution. The reason why we are so sad, the reason why the world is so fucked up, is because we are not using are bodies the way they were built to be used.
A short history of evolution, to my knowledge: A long, long time ago, two continents loved each other very much, and slowly they grew the Himilayan Mountains together. The mountains were so big that they stopped the clouds from passing over as they had once done so casually. Without the rain from these clouds, somewhere in Africa, the forests began to dry up, so the apes in the trees climbed down. These early humans had a lot in common with modern humans: they lived in families, they were omnivores, they had opposable thumbs. Eventually, these people began to build civilization. A few thousand years, the time that separates us now from those beings, is no time at all compare to the time it took for the mountains to grow and the forests to dry up. So why we may feel very far from those people, we are very similar biologically.
Is is simple: we have betrayed our biology for too long.
Less than one hundred years ago, the public did not know that tobacco caused cancer. A hundred years from now, what other every day things will turn out to poisonous? I once had a lecturer who told us he firmly believed that soon or later, science would show that living in poorly ventilated spaces, as we do now, will be cause of many health problems. Right now, the research is only preliminary: showing better sleep and more intelligent work in spaces where the chemical ratio of the air is being monitored. Maybe soon we will see that air fresheners are causing disease: in the mean time, I’ve decided to stop using them.
I am not a sucker for any crazy health theory thrown my way. I am not anti-vaccination, because it has been well document how vaccines work and the benefits they bring. Anti-vaxxers are bring back diseases that modern science had made all but destroyed because they are terrified of autism, or something like that. When if comes to aerosols, not only do I not know what is in them, even experts do not know exactly the effect they have.
There is a lot of things we don’t know, and while science is rushing to explain them, the best answer for the time being is to look back where we came from and ask: is this natural?
This also address the biggest problem currently facing humanity: what are we going to do about our dying planet? At the end of the day, the best choice is the choice that is best for Earth. The Earth gives us everything we need, and that is why environmentalism is not just a hobby of the elite anymore. Environmental health is human health! Environmental justice is social justice!
We need to look to the natural world for answers, and we need to make sure there is still a natural world to look at.
