Our bodies are the product of millions of years of evolution. Â The reason why we are so sad, the reason why the world is so fucked up, is because we are not using are bodies the way they were built to be used. Â
A short history of evolution, to my knowledge: Â A long, long time ago, two continents loved each other very much, and slowly they grew the Himilayan Mountains together. Â The mountains were so big that they stopped the clouds from passing over as they had once done so casually. Â Without the rain from these clouds, somewhere in Africa, the forests began to dry up, so the apes in the trees climbed down. Â These early humans had a lot in common with modern humans: they lived in families, they were omnivores, they had opposable thumbs. Â Eventually, these people began to build civilization. Â A few thousand years, the time that separates us now from those beings, is no time at all compare to the time it took for the mountains to grow and the forests to dry up. Â So why we may feel very far from those people, we are very similar biologically.
Is is simple: we have betrayed our biology for too long.
Less than one hundred years ago, the public did not know that tobacco caused cancer. Â A hundred years from now, what other every day things will turn out to poisonous? Â I once had a lecturer who told us he firmly believed that soon or later, science would show that living in poorly ventilated spaces, as we do now, will be cause of many health problems. Â Right now, the research is only preliminary: showing better sleep and more intelligent work in spaces where the chemical ratio of the air is being monitored. Â Maybe soon we will see that air fresheners are causing disease: in the mean time, Iâve decided to stop using them.
I am not a sucker for any crazy health theory thrown my way. Â I am not anti-vaccination, because it has been well document how vaccines work and the benefits they bring. Â Anti-vaxxers are bring back diseases that modern science had made all but destroyed because they are terrified of autism, or something like that. Â When if comes to aerosols, not only do I not know what is in them, even experts do not know exactly the effect they have.
There is a lot of things we donât know, and while science is rushing to explain them, the best answer for the time being is to look back where we came from and ask: is this natural?
This also address the biggest problem currently facing humanity: what are we going to do about our dying planet? Â At the end of the day, the best choice is the choice that is best for Earth. Â The Earth gives us everything we need, and that is why environmentalism is not just a hobby of the elite anymore. Â Environmental health is human health! Â Environmental justice is social justice!
We need to look to the natural world for answers, and we need to make sure there is still a natural world to look at.
