I may be fairly accused of having a one-track mind for this, but it's interesting to think about in relation to Milton's Paradise Lost and the illusion of freedom. He is allowed to believe that there is something other than omnipotence, which would be correct if he had not been given a false premiseāthe illusory idea that he's any closer to freedom. But if he lacked this false thought, what would he have?
And then his death is played for comedy.
tbh im just disappointed on how a genuinely interesting pairing between two adults(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) whose relationship hinged on shared trauma and bad coping mechanisms in a fucked up world got put through the fandom grinder and became. literally every other popular mlm pairing with a new coat of paint. And when that fan interpretation leaked its way into the main show... it's just wasted potential.
Literally. It'd be so interesting to see the baggage they each bring into the relationship and how they project their needs onto their partner, but the way it's portrayed feels... generic. There is nothing noteworthy about their chemistry (except that it's pretty much nonexistent). Take a list of romantic incorrect quotes and you probably won't have much difficulty forcing their dynamic into the predetermined tropes, which is unfortunate because Jon is wonderful and Martin, up until season five, had the potential to be one of the most nuanced characters in the show.
For instance, something fascinating is a possible interpretation of the line āsomething something and I'm not lonely anymore; I'm in loveā as a sign that some part of Martin is only with Jon because he's afraid of being alone. It ties into a more compelling view of his character as less of a softboy and more of a complex, troubled adult who tries to be nice just so he won't be alone. As you said: it's missed potential all around.

ohhh hmm.... well honestly i donāt think Too much would change. the guildmaster wouldnāt be as extremely feared ig. and grovyle definitely wouldnāt have believed team skull for a minute. but he probably couldnāt take all three of them in a fight like wiggly so that could change things if they ambushed him during the expedition. then again team skull wouldnāt find any grand treasure on him and would leave so it wouldnāt mean much in the long run i guess
as for wiggly he probably wouldāve been pretty straightforward with why he was taking the time gears. and itās not like anyone can stop him either which would certainly make primal dialgaās need to stop him so much more urgent. an even more terrifying outlaw than grovyle....
