augh the 2025 season is so good especially the ups and downs
canvas ive been drawing on for the past 3 days. all of these doodles i may have posted before just uncolored
off that last ask with zorael and klarissa... who do YOU ship of your characters???
Oh geez oh my! Drama, I like it.
Long character post ahead.
Obviously Ostia and R'tan I like quite a bit but just leaving it at that wouldn't be in the spirit of things.
Ostia is worn out. As much as she puts on the gruff grumpy face for her man and keeps going, it's not out of pride or a sense of duty to anyone. She doesn't fight for the heroics, she's fighting because she thinks, after all this time and what she's done, it's what she deserves.,
R'tan has been there. He's been consumed by duty and anger and a sense of listlessness. The only upside is as an Astartes you can just go where you're told, follow orders, and still do alright. He avoids command for that exact reason.
It took him so many years to finally come back into the upswing of trying. Of hoping.
He sees a bit of who he used to be in Ostia. Ostia sees a bit of who she wishes she could be in him. Together they're a slightly more functional pair, and they both work to support each other.
So like, canonically for me those two are a forever until one dies deal. But if you want to ship them with other people I guess just keep in mind that Ostia absolutely needs someone to remind her she's only human, and R'tan needs some balancing out when it comes to his stubbornness and potentially a lack of social awareness. Otherwise, it would be an interesting but likely unhealthy dynamic.
Klara is the nieve, curious, but a deeply intelligent individual who struggled through the hardest years of her life to get out from under her family only to realize she wasn't really mature enough to deal with being on her own. She's like, only 24 years old. So an actual baby by 40k standards. Socially she's trained to be polite and say all the right things, so she's extremely pleasant to be around, but absolutely is a pushover and can not advocate for herself.
If someone higher up asks for something, or if threatened, Klara won't say no (unless it was absolutely morally reprehensible, but otherwise she'd likely give in). So her being with anyone would be 2 parts eccentric, bright-eyed youngster seeing the stars for the first time, one part fear of losing one's individuality and sense of self in the pursuit of knowledge.
(She ran away from her family because they treated her like an object, and while she was pressed into mechanicus service in pain of death she's coming to realize that donning the red robe is just another slow erosion of 'Klarissa' into 'Adept')
Zorael is... I mean he puts on a bit of a suave face, but he's happy observing. Nothing entertains him more in his travels than just watching. People, places, things, events. He can come off as a bit strange, but he's just not used to many people wanting to interact with him. Especially after losing his voice, it often became tedious to converse, and not many outside his own squadmates sought out his company.
He joined the deathwatch voluntarily, with too many memories of Baal, of laughter and singing and simpler times. Zorael is curious and prone to tricks and jokes once anyone gets to know him, but to acquaintances, he'd come off as potentially just... quietly eccentric. Though his struggles with the Thirst means he's embraced that distance for the most part. It's safer that way, and his curiosity is sated by getting to observe events from the edges rather than having to be involved.
Mans spent so long either fighting or with his nose in a book, he probably needs a reminder that he's still a bit human under all the armor.
Marc and Shay, my true goblin children...
Shay is just a mess. She's possessive and manipulative and sort of uncaring in the worst ways possible. Eventually, slowly, at the glacial pace that only long lives species can achieve, she starts to realize that maybe Marc isn't a threat, or weakness, or a possession, but... a partner in crime? I'm not sure what her partner equivalent would be, but she wouldn't view him like humans do with couples.
I think her real development would come from seeing Marc's first greying hairs. Realizations that her trophy wasn't going to live forever with her. Confrontations with things she can't just fight or manipulate away.
So she could either go ultimate slow burn into a better person or full trash fire abusive.
Marc is just a simple hometown boy who is way too far out of his depth but also can't really go back. I think there's a part of him that doesn't want to as well. He's prideful, and admitting that 'hey geez, maybe being a scourges pet isn't the exact career plan I had in mind' is a bit of admittance of poor decisions, so instead, he's decided this is fine.
He's a good shot. He knows he's a good shot. Staying with El Shay provides him ample opportunities to fight and shoot, and facing Eldar he's pushed every day to get better or die. He likes that aspect of it, and Shay is all too happy to support him in getting more skilled.
The kill or be killed atmosphere of commoragh is much more concrete in terms of moving up in the world, and a lot easier to scale than the Imperial Military. He's a sweet enough man at his core but he's not cut out for a quiet retirement. Marc likes the fighting, he likes pushing himself, and he'd not be happy with someone looking for relaxation or not willing to let him keep improving.
This ended up being very long. Hopefully, it made sense, but if there are more or other characters you'd like information on or more in-depth dives I'm more than happy to provide it.
