Context: after dinner Eddie is dropping Pepa off at her house

Pepa: I’m glad evancito is putting that gorgeous kitchen to use

Eddie: yea he’s always been the cook. I’ve been trying to copy his recipes in Texas but Chris keeps saying I can’t get it right. I’ve tried everything down to FaceTiming Buck while I cook but nothing helps

P: haha… Eddie. You have to help Evan get better.

E: - I know. I just…I don’t know how when he won’t talk to me about what he’s thinking anymore. He’s so focused on my and everyone else’s grief to even begin processing his own.

P: You are his partner. You’ve never needed many words in the past, what’s changed?

E: I moved 800 miles away and left him. Like everyone else left him. And now his dad is dead and I got a job offer in El Paso and he wasn’t the first person I told and now nothing is the same anymore

P: have you tried talking to him about his grief?

E: Of course I have

P: Have you? From what I’m hearing, you have been dealing with your own and with Chris and it sounds like Evancito knows this and didn’t want to pile on any more grief and now you’re living at his house and he doesn’t really have a minute alone anymore. I’m not saying he’s blameless. He definitely should’ve handled it better himself instead of trying to focus on everyone else, but have you given him space to reach out to you?

E:… I- no. I don’t know how to talk to him when he always redirects it back to me. He’s normally will open up to me. He has to know he can open up to me…right?

P: From what I can tell this is his first major lost. We all cope with grief differently sobrino.

E: I miss the old Buck. Before Chris left and I followed and he started dating that jerk. When it was just us and movie nights and trips to the zoo and having each others backs.

P: I know Carino. And it won’t ever be exactly like that again, but it could be better.

(Pause as they pull up to her house)

P: do you remember when I said you need to find a partner? That Chris needs amother parent and you need someone to support you.

E: Yes?

P: You chose well. (Smug smile) Goodnight. Make sure Evancito gets more Cumin.
