In Which I'm Confused About Queen Chrysalis's Size Class in the MLP TTRPG
Okay so the MLP TTRPG, which uses Essence 20, which is this whole thing I'm not getting into, but I got the sourcebook because I'm running a Power Rangers campaign and I promise there's a connection there, but we're NOT GETTING INTO THAT RIGHT NOW, says Queen Chrysalis is in the Huge size category, which, like, okay, maybe she's Huge. "Alicorns" are in the Large category, and she's obviously not like noticeably taller than Cadance for reasons you should really not be reading this post if you don't know. But the Huge category is defined as "15-30 feet tall" and that sends me down a rabbit hole. Not a "this matters" rabbit hole, it most definitely is not one of those, but a "I've been infected with pedantry and can only solve this by doing MATH" rabbit hole.
First thought, for some reason, is "I should compare her height to Megatron" which is obviously a reasonable thing to do (pic related (we're not getting into that one either)), so let's do that. Horn to tail, she's 260 pixels long in the image we're working with, which is a very generous measurement of her height because of her positioning, but we're trying to make her as tall as we can, Megatron from the top of his head to the bottom of the image is 720 pixels long, which is a very ungenerous measurement of him because significant portions of his feet are cut off, but, again, we're trying our best to make her as big as we can. That gives us a Chrysalis/Megatron height ratio (as generous as possible) of about 2.75 Chrysalises per Megatron. In the IDW continuity (as close as I'm getting, given the source I'm using), Megatron is 38' tall (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Official_sizes_and_heights#2005_IDW_continuity), so that puts Chrysalis at approximately 13.8' tall (hard maximum, very generous).
This puts her at a little over a foot outside of the Huge size class, so maybe if you want to treat her as a little bigger by saying "oh no she's floating a little bit behind him, so the scale is weird" then sure, we can do that. She barely makes Huge by being infinitely generous.
Okay, so, what if we used a slightly-less-ridiculous source material for her size? Perhaps... My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Obviously not the first thing you'd think of, definitely you'd think of that after the Transformers thing, obviously. Regardless, she's like... 1.5-2x bigger than Starlight Glimmer, who is a Pony. A Pony is defined as "a horse of a small breed, especially one whose height at the withers is below 14 hands 2 inches (58 inches)." okay great, Starlight Glimmer is no bigger than 58 inches tall because we all agree Starlight Glimmer is a pony, though assuming Starlight Glimmer is the biggest possible pony seems unfair, we're trying to make Chrysalis as big as possible, so Starlight Glimmer is LARGE PONY.
So, how big does *that* make her? 87"-116" tall or 7.25'-9.6ish'. Okay we're nowhere near Huge now, but we're in the neighborhood of the biggest horse ever recorded (86.5"), and she has a big honkin' horn that counts towards her height, so she's just a REALLY BIG HORSE, which is a size class I'm happy to accept that she's in.
I don't have a conclusion.
