Honestly I think it says a lot that when Escharum was showing signs of terminal illness, Jega was still loyal to him and even saying things like “save your strength”. Even tho Escharum is an important figure to the Banished, they still are a faction that values strength over all else and will bully, betray, and butcher their own, and it’s notable that Jega is the only one we see acknowledging and witnessing Escharum’s illness in both the game and Edge of Dawn. Jega definitely was helping Escharum hide his illness and potentially taking down anyone who sniffed put the potential opportunity to challenge Escharum for the Banished.
