I've just listened to The Kingmaker and it's honestly become one of my favourites. Spoilers:
It's off to an extremely solid start with the plot hook being that in the future time travelling robots are created to go to like every writer ever and threaten them with death if they don't meet their deadlines, and the Doctor started writing some historical kids book in his UNIT days so now it's after him and he has to research the death of the princes in the London tower to finish the book. Like wtf who came up with that π
Starring: extremely sassy King Richard who sounds like Nine. Time travelling patriotic Shakespeare with a ray gun???? And the TARDIS drifting Peri and Erimem two years back before the Doctor arrives.
Everyone, and I mean everyone, is so sassy. And Erimem breaks like, three guy's arms, including Shakespeare's.
Fun time travel concepts too, such as Richard knows about time travel because he's known as a famous villain in history, as a popular suspect for the murder of the princes, and so time travelling alien tourists keep showing up in his life.
Also we have Richard politely borrowing someone's sword before chasing after Shakespeare with it while screaming bloody murder?
And finally it's also now canon that when the Doctor gets drunk, so does the TARDIS. So do with that what you will.
