Bounty Board 092: Photo-realism vs. Stylized Aesthetic
Hello friends! Happy Friday! I think, what day is it? Join your favorite video game podcast hosts for another episode of Bounty Board this week, as they talk about the unveiling of Unreal Engine 5. Showcased in a Summer Games Fest livestream, UE5 stunned during its tech demo. The high fidelity got the crew thinking: Which do you prefer? Photo-realism, or stylized art in your games?
We dig into what games need photo-realism and what games need to be stylized, which of course leads to a discussion about whether or not there is a requirement for any game to look a certain way. Do simulation games have to look real? Can they be stylized too? At what point does a game’s attempt to look real interfere with its immersion?
