it is not a daily occurrence but it has become more and more, slowly, gently, she has found a place in his home, she had found a place there, with her snark and her hidden kindness. she reminds of ash, of kitty, she reminds him of family with her gentle heart that she imagines to be a weakness, with her bark that is worst than her bite. lazy cerulean hues glance at her, head falling back, barely, ❜ nah, i don't. ❜ another long drag of his smoke is taken, mouthful filling his lungs, ❜ can take my bed but i ain't got all that shit to take the stuff off your face though. ❜

“    there's no such thing,   's what i mean. . .    ”       you try again,   quieter this time.   measuring the weight and feel of the words on your tongue.        “    no right or wrong way of healing,   i'm afraid.    ”       a smile stretches your lips,   though mouth corners are pulled down.   you wish there was a right or wrong way,   as you are sure she does too.   it would be nice to be sure that you will heal at all.   that your mere existence won't always feel like a sin.        “    it takes time,   and unfortunately,   time's all we got these days. . .    ”

she   takes   her   sister’s   hand   in   her   own,   their   fingers   fitting   together   as   they   always   have.         in   childhood,   @enternecers​​   always   goes   on   and   on   about   soft   hands      —      about   the   ways   in   which   a   lady   ought   to   mind   her   appearance,   down   the   smallest   detail.      her   hands   are   still   smaller   and   softer   than   josephine’s,   but   the   older   sister   is   proud,   she   must   admit,   to   feel   some   callouses   on   amy’s   fingers   and   spy   paint   stains   as   one   might   spy   ink   stains   on   jo.            “      you   didn’t   need   to   stay   the   night   with   me   here,   you   know.      ”            but   here   at   plumfield,   seated   on   the   silent   back   porch   of   aunt   march’s   large,   empty   house,   she   certainly   appreciates   the   company.

throat   is   sore   from   screaming.   a   constant   reminder   of   the   painful   truth   :   gretchen   was   gone.   leah   did   all   of   that   ...   for   nothing.   they   were   still   stranded   on   that   island.   the   people   responsible   had   fled.   the   sudden   need   to   let   out   another   gut-wrenching   scream   overcomes   her,   but   it's   no   use.   she's   tired.   exhausted   and   terrified.   eyes   fill   with   tears   as   she   stares   back   at   fatin,   hopeless.   ‘   don't   you   get   it   ?   ’   leah   never   wants   to   be   mean   to   fatin,   but   there's   conflictive   emotions   and   thoughts,   and   she   wants   to   scream.   ‘   she's   gone.   we're   fucked.   ’   again.   god,   did   it   matter   anymore   ?   ‘   we're   never   fucking   leaving.   ’   hands   are   brought   down   quickly   to   her   sides,   punching   the   floor   uselessly.   energy   is   spent   rather   quickly,   and   leah   is   finally   able   to   look   at   fatin   in   the   eyes   again.   ‘   fatin,   i'm   sorry.   i   wasn't   —   i   didn't   —   i   couldn't   get   us   out   of   here.   ’   (   @enternecers​.   )
