Blazing hot take, system origin labels don’t tell you anything about what kind of system someone is. Origin labels tell you where they came from, not where they are now.
For example, us. We’re plural. We’re traumagenic. Our system formed because trauma broke us into fragments. However, we’re in a completely safe environment now. We’re on meds. We’re in therapy. I know how to fuse with alters at will. I know I could do final fusion Right Now, if I WANTED to. But I don’t WANT to. I’m choosing to stay plural. I WANT to be plural. My present life circumstances line up more with the willo community than the trauma community. Because while it may not have been my choice to become a system, it is my choice to stay a system.
A theoretical. Someone could be willogenic, and lose control of their headmates completely. No longer able to will them into nonexistence or fuse or fragment at will. (I think that’s what most willogenic systems want to begin with.) Their headmates could start causing harm to the body, to other headmates, to the willogenic system’s friends and family. Or their headmates could be benign and benevolent, but their life situation is so horrific that they can’t imagine living without their headmates. That would be a willogenic system whose experiences would line up more with the trauma community than willo community.
It’s not as clear cut as traumagenic, endogenic, and willogenic. There’s infinite permeations of what kind of system someone could be. Your origin isn’t who you are. I feel like a lot of the genic microlabels are missing the point, which is that you can originate from one thing and be another thing.
Someone could be endogenic, plural just because that’s how they are, and go through so much trauma after developing a system that they function more like a trauma system. That doesn’t mean they’re traumagenic, but they’re traumaplural now.
What I propose is a completely new set of labels. Not origin labels, but labels of who you are NOW. If these already exist, feel free to ignore my suggestions. If they don’t already exist, then this is me coining them. If these labels exist but mean different things, we can workshop new labels for the same meanings. But, here’s my solution. Current plurality labels, not origin labels.
Endoplural: regardless of origin, you are plural. You cannot control whether you are plural. Your system does not cause significant distress, and your life is not currently in a traumatic situation.
Traumaplural: regardless of origin, you are plural. Your system causes you distress, and/or your life is currently in the thick of a traumatic situation. You may or may not have control over whether you’re plural.
Willoplural: regardless of origin, you choose to be plural. Your system may or may not cause distress and you may or may not be in a traumatic situation, but you have control over whether or not you are plural.
I haven’t seen anyone talk about this concept before, but feel free to direct me if someone has already coined terms for what someone is experiencing NOW, not their origin.
I am a traumagenic willoplural.
ETA: I’m workshopping terms for this concept that are entirely unrelated to origin terms, ie have completely different prefixes, I will be adding a reblog with my new terms, which i believe i will be calling “plural status” terms as opposed to “plural origin” terms. For those who believe origin doesn’t matter but still want to give people an idea of what kind of system they are, these terms could be useful as identity terms. A lot of system use origin terms as identity terms, for example “I am traumagenic” when I think the proper use case for these is “I was traumagenic” (similar to how in nonbinary communities the proper use case for sex assignment is “i was afab/amab” and not “i am afab/amab” because it is not who you are currently)
being a developing system is odd. some days your friends are screaming in your head, other days they're silent. some days your switches are clear and you can tell who you are easily, other days you're what the plurals call "soupy".
it's even weirder when you're not entirely sure of your origins. you are technically willogenic, because you CHOSE to split, but at the same time, you've always had identity issues that plurality would explain.
