A DEFENSE OF HADES: an obsessive manifesto.
Basically I'm compiling my thoughts about Hades in the Fate of Atlantis DLC because I feel he was done dirty and got the shit end of the short stick. If you bother to read this then by all means message me so we can vent together!
TL;DR: Aletheia is annoying and Hades deserves better, lol. It honestly really annoyed me that throughout the DLC, she referred to Hades as the "mad king" who "ruled through chaos". Not at all true. Hades took his role as the ruler of Tartaros very seriously. He is stern, but fair. When the player kills Cerberos and disrupts the order of the realm, Hades holds them accountable and instructs them to fix it. Not to mention he describes how "mortal souls will wander lost for eternity", which would anger him. Hades is actually concerned with the order of his realm, and the wellbeing of its subjects. This is also supported when he orders the punishment of the thief in Tartaros (keep in mind, Tartaros is a prison for the most wicked souls) he still goes to the effort of handling it personally, whereas anyone else (like Persephone lbr) could care less.
Hades is not a mad king who rules and invites chaos. Hades is actually very concerned and adamant about the order of his realm, and has his own ideas of justice. He punishes the thief in Tartaros, and he instructs Brasidas on how to spend his eternal life. Depending on the players choices, all things considered. Hades doesn't feel that Brasidas deserves Elysium because he slaughtered innocent people. His compromise is that Brasidas should spend eternity reuniting families torn apart by war. Once again, this is a logical, stern but FAIR punishment. Which honestly, is hardly a punishment at all. Hades could have condemned him to Tartaros.
This put together hardly resembles the actions of a mad person that thrives on chaos. Which brings me to my next point: Aletheia criticizes Hades for not being concerned about human bloodlines, yet claims that she strives for equality between humans and isu. That's some bullshit, I'm sorry. Hades doesn't accept humans as equal, and frankly he shouldn't. But he also doesn't belittle them based on bloodline, or act rude towards them. Hardly the actions of a superficial isu. To a certain extent, I can also understand his method of keeping the player as one of the guardians. Hello! His realm is screwed up because of them! Then the player basically takes off as the whole thing descends into ruin. So everyone is just screwed for eternity? Weird flex but okay. Also Aletheia puts Poseidon on a pedestal for his (and her lbr) ruling over Atlantis, when he was content to be locked in his tower COMPLETELY UNINVOLVED until the player presents overwhelming evidence. Poseidon didn't even know what was happening in his own realm. Whereas Hades knows everything that is happening in his realm at all times.
Aletheia also attacked Hades for basically not losing his shit over the impending solar flare. Hello! There was nothing to be done. Hades simply accepted his possible annihilation without the dramatics, and left his fate in the hands of the best engineers of his age. Persephone and Poseidon refused to accept the evidence AT ALL. And yet, Aletheia groups them all together as ignorant and uncooperative.
I'm not saying that Hades is without his flaws, but there's enough evidence to the contrary of Aletheia's characterization of him. To the point it almost seems personally motivated because they don't share the same fundamental ideals. Aletheia strives for equality on her terms, while Hades is unconcerned with genetic makeup. Hades is more concerned with actions over genetics, while Aletheia believes genetics entitle an individual to a degree of power. Only when Layla goes off the deep end does Aletheia CONSIDER the alternative. Layla is in no position to be handling the staff. Sorry, Aletheia. But back off Hades! For all we know he probably thinks Juno is crazy too.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Lmfao.
