it had never been personal. he didn’t know c.c., there was no room for malice for a stranger in a heart already overfilling with personal maleficence for a friend. lelouch’s betrayal to him had wounded him beyond belief, and the sword he had unsheathed all those years ago trembled in his hands as it threatened to retaliate in a gruesome show of cruel ire. lelouch was the essence of what he feared the most, the flagrant display of brutality, coupled with the cruel heart - twisting power of the geass, the most violent and violating form of force he had ever witnessed. and c.c. was the embodiment of that very power that he so hated, the heart - numbing, will - breaking, mind - assaulting ability which had forced him to stand before her on this day of reckoning.

( but oh, betrayal was such a strong word, a selfish word! what had been lelouch’s betrayal but the truth? they had played a charade of false friendship, they both knew it to be so, and yet he wanted to believe otherwise. whose fault was that? it was his fault. it was his blame. it was his betrayal. )

suzaku ran his tongue along the top row of his teeth in calm, quiet thought.

and then he said softly, almost curiously,

❝ I didn’t expect you to be the type influenced by pretty little words alone. How would you have liked me to do it? Buy you the entire franchise of your beloved restaurant? Is that perhaps enough proof for you? ❞ The emperor teased the immortal expecting a response like that out of her. He himself was rather romantically inept, and he thought it was safe to assume C.C. to be similar in that regard.  ❝ I wasn’t intending to make a show out of it. If I were to make it that memorable how would you feel after I perish? ❞

Perhaps announcing his love at this point was selfish of him, but if he was truly going to die within the upcoming months; What would the point of holding in such a declaration be?

❝ You’re right, after all the time that has passed I’m still the same Lelouch, and you’re the same selfish, calloused woman I had the pleasure of having as my accomplice. ❞

Hearing her final demand Lelouch stepped forward, and stood within a couple inches of the immortal witch. ❝ Saying it again would be pointless. Repetition in general is pointless. I’ll have to use a different method to prove my claim. ❞

Without a hint of hesitation the black prince wrapped a slender arm around C.C.’s waist pulling her body against his. Lelouch didn’t often let others this close to him. He could handle the unfamiliar feeling, but when violet optics gazed on the witch’s porcelain visage a faint blush became visible on his features. Before the witch could notice his moment of weakness, delicate fingers belonging to his free hand tilted her chin up, and he pressed a soft kiss on her lips.

The enigma barricades your path to the item you have been questing for. The elixir of life. Your nightly vigil in the dead of winter, though long and weary, has at last, bore fruit. Footsteps crunch on the snow, painfully audible in the silence of darkness ( illuminated only by the soft glow emanating from the golden creature ) yet the mysterious being makes no move to flee or defend itself. It looks serene even as you raise your weapon, and for a moment there is a chill in your heart that stems not from the cold. You bring it down — but wait, it takes no damage, in fact, it bounces back ! The stringiness. . . that texture. . . that elasticity ! It is made of a substance that does not yet exist in your world. You circle behind it, but there is no bottle of snake’s blood or wishbones to be found. You understand, then, that this beast, is itself, the elixir. Congratulations, hero! Immortality is now within your grasp.
