There was something unique about the relationship between Yugi and Atem that the monarch had noticed and found that he had never experienced it with anyone else in his entire life. And his life was rather extensive considering the circumstances. Even in his life as Pharaoh, he had never been so close to someone. To love someone to such an extent that even âloveâ wasnât a proper word to explain what they felt for one another. It was new. It was amazing. Atem would always cherish what they have even while they continued their lives separate from one another.Â
Dinner was warm in his belly. Two cups of hot cocoa had been placed on the coffee table minutes ago. Their owners nestling close to each other with barely a word as they were completely immersed on what was going on the television. It was a cartoon. One that Yugi recommended that the royal watch. Of course, Yugi had seen it all before, but he wasnât against seeing it again. It was a show he loved. Adored even. Atem could even recall that the young man had bought a few merchandise from the show in the last couple of months.
Atem had to admit, it was rather good. At times there were some dark parts to it. A character would perish, the heroine was striving to figure out her place in the world, but was still adamant about protecting her friends and family. Something that Atem could relate toâŚa bit too much.
Movement brought his attention to Yugi beside him, who excused himself to grab something to eat or to go to the restroom. Which ever one it was. Atem was only half paying attention, his crimson hues quickly returning back to the screen where a battle scene was taking place. It was a massive palette of colors. So much light, Pharaoh could only half wonder if that was how humans really thought how fighting wasâŚbut then realized that this was just a childrenâs show.Â
Yet his mind was once again joggled back from his inner musing, when Yugi came back with a bowl of popcorn and settled himself right in Atemâs lap. A delicate brow would raise on the monarchâs golden visage, but Yugi didnât seem at all deterred by it. Or most likely, didnât notice. His amethyst hues were on the screen, his hand reaching down to grab a few pieces of popcorn and plopping them right into his mouth. Atem mentally shook his head before adjusting Yugi and himself, so that the boy sat comfortably in his lap and Atem could place his chin on Yugiâs shoulder.
One may think differently on how their relationship really was. Romantically. Platonically. Whatever modern society thought of that day. But Atem had very little care for that. He knew what they had. Yugi knew too. What they had for each other was a deep love with no label to describe it. It was theirâs and Atem was happy to not have it with another.Â
