"All looks good," Dr. Kowalewski announced. "Baby is active, yes?"

"Oh, yes," Castle chuckled, sharing a smile with his wife. "She moves around like crazy, even now that she's running out of room in there."

"Good, good." The doctor nodded, her hands moving gently over Kate's belly. "Any contractions?"

"Not really," Kate answered. "Just the Braxton-Hicks a few times a day."

"Mm. And how are you feeling otherwise, Kate? Sleep okay?"

"It's getting harder to sleep," Kate admitted. "I just can't get comfortable."

"Yes, yes, normal," Dr. Kowalewski agreed, nodding again. "Sleep sitting up, if you must. Will be fine. Now," she went on, straightening up, "as we discussed before, Kate, you are high-risk because of your age and medical history."

"Right," Kate said, and Castle nodded also.

"However, pregnancy is going very well," the doctor continued. "Mom healthy, baby healthy. All looks good. So, we are now one week past due date, and we give you one more week, then we think about inducing labor, yes?"

"Yeah." Kate grimaced. "I still hope that won't be necessary, though. I don't know if I can take another week of this."

Hi everyone! We're on winter hiatus, as you probably know, and we thought this would be a great opportunity to introduce you to our fantastic Season 9 authors.

Each Monday of the hiatus, we'll be featuring an author here on the blog. We'll tell you a little bit about who she is and what she's all about, and because no hiatus would be complete without reruns, we'll also be linking back to the episode that she wrote. This hiatus is the perfect time for you to catch up on any episodes you might have missed, or to re-read some (or all) of them!

Episode 1 Authors: L and Cathey

Today we're featuring two authors, L and Cathey, who co-wrote our season premiere episode, "Detente."

L (@encantadaa​) is our showrunner and the mastermind behind Season 9 - none of this would have happened without her!

L lives in Texas and teaches intermediate school music, middle school band, and high school band. Her job keeps her super busy, but she loves it. She is 27 years old, single, and lives alone with her cat (let the crazy cat lady jokes begin...).

L discovered Castle shortly after it started in 2009, when she watched a couple of episodes over spring break with her parents, who had recorded them. She enjoyed them, but didn't have TV at college, so she returned to school after spring break and forgot about Castle for a while. In 2014, she re-discovered the show on TNT, got hooked, and joined the fandom as a live viewer with 6x14. She followed a few Castle blogs on Tumblr, where she learned that fanfiction was a thing that existed, and started writing fic in November 2014. She doesn't have much time for writing anymore, and she misses it.

Collaborating on episode 1 with Cathey was fun. They did a lot of chatting within their Google Doc and had a Skype planning session at one point. Writing an actual episode, rather than just regular fic, is a lot harder than they both realized. Cathey was the mastermind behind the case in Episode 1, and did so well with the planning and details of it. The scene where they finally caught the killer contained so many lines that made L giggle as she read what Cathey had written.

Cathey – sometimes called Trinity Everett, @bunysliper​, or 'Hey You' – is a semi-professional procrastinator (also known as a computer programmer and aerospace engineer) and puppy lover with tendency to get too attached to fictional characters.

One day in early 2013, she stumbled across Castle on TNT, fell in love, and slowly started to devour all things Castle fandom. It took her over a year to post her first Castle fic, but once she did, she hasn't looked back.

One of the best parts of working on "Détente" with L was mapping out how Castle and Beckett were saved, and figuring out how they would make their transition back to the precinct and into finding out a little Castle was on the way. As one of her first forays into case writing, it was an interesting task to find the balance between keeping the episode moving and letting Caskett cuddle and talk endlessly. For Cathey's solo episode, "In Case of Emergency," rush hour was often used as a brainstorming session, and the finer details of the murder victim's job, motivations, and family were decided one slow-moving morning and dictated to Google Docs thanks to voice-to-text.
