I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)? Not really? Maybe reading and re-reading some of my favorites when I’m procrastinating? Lying in bed on a Saturday morning and reading fic updates I missed, or bingeing something?

N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you? Um, everything? LOL…so about a year ago Callie basically plotted out a fic for me. My intention was that it would be my 2016 summer ficathon fic. Then it was my 2016 winterthon fic. Then it was my 2017 ficathon fic. It’s to be 13 chapters long. I’ve written 5 mediocre chapters. I have a detailed outline for chapter 6 somewhere, in a notebook, that I can’t find right now. I want someone else to write it so I don’t have to struggle through it anymore (but also I’ve put in so much time and effort and so many tears that I’d never give it up).

T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand? Really the only things I can’t stand are things that make people OOC, or are kink meme things that I won’t even mention. I’m not a huge fan of the supernatural/fantasy genre, except a select few fics, but even then if it’s not by an author I already like, I probably won’t read it.

X: A character you enjoy making suffer. I don’t really like any of the characters to suffer, unless it’s for the purpose of growing them as a person, or providing backstory (such as the Alexis backstory in Propinquity). If I had to make someone suffer though, it’d be Esposito. Or, of course, the obvious people like Tyson.

“Lockdown”

She took her time to fix her coffee the way she liked it, and then she returned to her desk, ready to face the neverending pile of paperwork. She was in the middle of replying to an email from 1PP about her maternity leave when suddenly, all the lights went off, and the whole floor was filled with darkness. She clumsily stood from her chair, managing to get to the door by gripping the edge of her desk and letting what little light came in through the closed blinds guide her.

“Don’t worry, it’s just a blackout,” she exclaimed, loud enough for everyone to hear above the growing clamor of voices. “The backup generator will pick up in a second.”

No sooner had she said those words than the lights came back on, and she saw a few officers sigh, clearly relieved.

“See? Nothing to worry ab--”

But her sentence was cut off abruptly by a chorus of screams and loud bangs coming from the distance.

“It seems to be coming from holding,” Vikram said from the door of the tech room.

Beckett just had to share a look with Ryan to send him running in the general direction of the noises, gun unholstered and ready. Her pregnancy made it difficult for her to follow, so she got to the scene a few seconds after him and a few others. The first thing that caught her attention was the body of an officer on the floor.

“It’s Parker. He was in charge of holding last night,” LT informed her.

Ryan was crouched next to the body, his hand on the man’s neck, checking for vitals. He shook his head and turned to look at Beckett.

“He’s dead,” he confirmed.

Beckett was still absorbing this information when she heard LT speak again. The urgency in his voice was unmistakable.

FWIW, I don’t buy the deep, paralyzing insecurity angle, wrt his body but I can see a degree of it popping up here and there, because he has been shown to pay attention to his looks and express concern over them (I think back to the “if I wake up bald tomorrow, you’ll still be attracted to me?” conversation, if that makes sense) from time to time.
