…Easy — but it’s Lucien quietly grounding Elain because she made the mistake of looking at him a little too long, and now the mating bond she swears she doesn’t want is lighting her up, breathless and hot all over. And she might climb him like a tree.

The issue I have with Sarah j Maas at this point is that her previous talks about Lucian and Elain were all centered around their healing and their eventual growth together leading to their love story. This in my opinion has kept the fandom salivating for this elucian storyline that, if we are paying attention to the books, is basically not likely to happen. The forshadowing involved for an Azriel x Elain story line is so in your face it’s ridiculous to think that it wouldn’t be addressed and followed through with. The bonus chapter with Az’s POV basically cemented their MUTUAL attraction in my opinion. Sure we can add in the gwyn portion but even that scene did not read as romantic and his character had to make himself be civil.
When you have other characters questioning the validity of a mate bond and the mates pair are awkward and show signs of not wanting to be around each other, it kind tells me that SJM went in a different direction than the one she’s been talking about in the past.
Only thing we can do now is wait and see if the forshadowing will hold merit or if she does somehow flip the script and go the elucian route even if the set up in wonky.

“You Archerons are not our people! You were born and raised human. You came into power because the folly of a fool High Lord put this entire territory, the lives of millions, into the hands of a child.” The hardest part about hearing these words was that Nesta agreed. Making Feyre High Lady was possibly the most egregious of a long list of shitty governing choices Rhysand had made when he was still alive. Rhysand was the whole reason they were in this mess, and compared to centuries old fae, Feyre was a child. Hell, until recently she was illiterate, to Nesta’s shame. Hardly ruler material.
But Feyre was still her sister. And Nesta had already let her down; in their human childhoods, in the war…after. She felt the flames stir, sensing the coming end of talks. The beginning of the inevitable.
It was a busy Mother’s Day Weekend and I just got done with the final edits for epilogue to Lucien, Come On. I’ll be posting it tomorrow but here’s a little preview.
(Read from the beginning)
Her phone started to ring, showing a facetime call from Vassa. Elain smiled as she hit accept, Vassa, Matilda, and Jurian appeared onscreen. The toddler was sitting between her parents, eating a graham cracker, and she burst into a grin when she saw Elain.
“Lai-y!” she said excitedly with a wave.
“Hi!” Elain waved back.
“Hey, Elain! We wanted to see how the trip was going,” Vassa chimed in while Jurian gave a nod and a smile.
“We’re at the tulip field, let me show you,” Elain said as she stepped to the side.
“Pretty,” Matilda said in her small voice, pointing at the screen. She was now a year and half and was an active, cheerful child who loved mischief, just like her parents.
“Those tulips are gorgeous,” Vassa gushed.
“Aren’t they?”
“Did you find a favorite flower?” Juiran asked in a teasing tone, he knew her too well.
“Yes, it was dark pink with lighter pink edges,” Elain answered, but stopped when she felt another kick. This one was harder and made her jump and grab her stomach. Vassa took notice and her brows furrowed in concern.
“How are you feeling?” Vassa asked, pivoting the subject. Just like the pregnancy, Vassa had been so supportive and continuously checked in with Elain. They still talked daily, despite no longer living on her ranch.
“Good, the baby just kicked and got me good,” she answered with a laugh. “I’m walking a bit slower and I’ve needed afternoon naps, but seeing this was definitely worth the trip.”
“Loosh! Loosh!” Matilda exclaimed, pointing again to the screen.
Elain laughed and turned around, her laugh froze when she saw him.
