I implied it in my previous post, but Iβll say it much more clearly now:
I have ZERO respect for the people who created and spread the womb theory.
And no, this isnβt about disliking a ship or disagreeing with a theory. People can theorize about fictional characters and ships all they want. My problem is with reducing female characters and their narrative worth to their reproductive anatomy and essentially treating their bodies as evidence for which man theyβre supposedly meant to end up with.
You can dress it up with paragraphs of βanalysisβ and call it foreshadowing or symbolism, but I still find the entire premise deeply uncomfortable. Especially when it contributed to years of discourse where Elain was treated as irrelevant, interchangeable, or somehow less important because another characterβs body supposedly provided the answer to the romantic endgames.
And what I find even more disgusting is seeing this kind of thing coming from people with huge platforms. When you have tens of thousands of followers, whether you like it or not, you inevitably have a certain amount of power and influence within the fandom, and I donβt think that should ever be underestimated. The things you choose to promote, repeat, and normalize are going to reach thousands of people and inevitably shape fandom discourse. At that point, you canβt pretend your words exist in a vacuum or that you have absolutely no responsibility for the environment you help create.
So yes, Iβm being completely explicit about it this time: I donβt respect that theory, I donβt respect the reasoning behind it, and I donβt respect the decision to popularize that kind of discourse in the fandom.
And I also donβt respect the fact that, after countless opportunities to address it, after the entire CC storyline SJM wrote and everything she has said about reducing female characters to baby-making machines, you still havenβt apologized or even attempted to walk back this disgusting theory.
Comparing what TWO PEOPLE feel and how they react when they see each other or are together vs SHADOWS (MAGIC) WITH A PERSON and believing you discovered the author's big secret for the future because of that "interaction" is simply ridiculous.
And honestly, at this point, I'm really embarrassed that people still believe GA is "something" ... and that this "something" is only because of their hatred of Elain's character and the fact that they can't accept that Sarah decided to write that she and Az have romantic interest beyond a mating bond (supposedly sacred!!! Elain, what are you doing going in the opposite direction from Lucien and you, Az, Gwyn is right there and has been for much longer...π€‘)
If you want to make comparisons about spark, music, etc., do it like all of Sarah's couples, WHERE THE CHARACTERS ARE REACTING NOT THE MAGIC, THE CHARACTER. Your comparisons with Az's shadows are just magic reacting to magic, just like Nesta's magic reacted, THERE IS NOTHING ROMANTIC ABOUT IT and that should tell you everything. But of course, you can't, because THERE ARE NO INTERACTIONS LIKE THAT BETWEEN THOSE TWO CHARACTERS BECAUSE NEITHER OF THEM IS ROMANTICALLY INTERESTED IN THE OTHER!!! I INVITE YOU TO RE-READ AZ AND ELAIN'S INTERACTIONS, BECAUSE THERE ARE AND YOU DON'T NEED A BC THAT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE HAVEN'T EVEN READ, IT'S IN THE MAIN BOOKS :)
