I had some scarf videos being pushed onto my timeline on another platform which have now progressed into all sorts of textiles as clothes videos. Mainly ones where Russian ladies show off how bolts of fabric and bargain bin bedazzled tops can be transformed into evening wear, all with the strategic placement of a few safety pins, brooches and bangles (sometimes all at the same time).
The overall effect (there’s a soft focus in all the videos) looks good but I bet in person, it may not come off as glamorous. Especially given how I have several of the brooches and know exactly how much (or in this case, little) they actually cost.
All this is my long-winded way of saying I think I have a new head canon for Sophie. Seeing as how she was a London Street Rat™️ and Kiki and at some point did a lot of loft hopping before becoming a duchess, I think she may have used some of the tips and tricks from the videos to look the part and gain access to those higher society circles when she didn’t have the money to purchase expensive clothes. Until someone (idk, maybe that lady from the King George Job) in the social circle noticed and called her out on the cheap facade. And then proceeded to guide Sophie on how to actually make it in the higher class circles, maybe letting her borrow old outfits and whatnot. In the end, this mentoring helped her bag a duke.
